jonathan sims top character of all time. his best friend is his ex-girlfriend’s cat. he doesn’t drink coffee. he lies about his age but everyone believes him because he acts like a 60 year old man. the second he’s faced with death he asks his coworker if he’s a ghost. he later falls in love with that coworker. instead of having a beautiful narrative arc about the importance of friendship and surrounding yourself with anchors he had a meat freak rip out his rib. he’s canonically asexual.
I’ve been relistening MAG 49: The Butcher’s Window and this part caught my attention:
Jared pulled out what appeared to be a handful of ribs. He considered them for a few moments before he began to twist them like warm putty, making them into some sort of braid.
I immediately saw Jared Hopworth as thorough artist. He doesn't just bluntly take out the bones, but he treats them like art, he makes things out of them before putting them in himself. So I came up with an interesting image. In fact, Jared makes different types of bone jewelry: wreaths, necklaces, belts. When he puts them on, after a while, the jewelry dissolves into him and becomes part of his body, forming his huge, uneven body. Since the Flesh is associated with appearance and body expression, it makes sense if Jared Hopworth, the king of The Flesh, would be covered in handmade delicate jewelry, which is for him a symbol of beauty and art.
I’ve seen so many versions of the tma finale where Jon is a distorted thing with a bunch of eyes floating above the ground but hear me out:
The moment Jon becomes the pupil of the eye, he looks even more like himself than he’s looked in years.
I dunno I feel like the implications are kinda sick.
WHY IS THIS ALICE?
thought of the day: the more terrifying moments in tma aren’t about monsters at all, but what humans resolve to out of desperation. like melanie calmly asking to call her an ambulance when she’s about to go blind. or jon sawing his finger off again, and again, and again
An alternate universe where The Archivist forgets to top up his oyster card and misses the train
Sometimes I think of tma verse Gerry talking about how, “It hurts. Being like this. And it’s not like any pain you can feel when you’re alive. It’s… it hurts to exist.”
And I wonder, if Jon is one of the voices trapped in the computers, if he finally understands what Gerry meant.
I won't be surprised if alchemy ends up being my next hyperfixation since I see myself slowly getting bored of bookbinding and this is the third fandom I'm in that takes inspiration from alchemy (FMA, Genshin and TMA)
I was like "huh, loads of alchemy in Magnus Protocol, better pick up some books on alchemy to see if they help me understand some hidden themes" so I picked up "Secrets of Alchemy" by Lawrence M. Principe and guys, I'm just sitting there, reading it like:
THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF THAT'S CURRENTLY RELEVANT. DYES (INKS??) BEING ONE OF MAIN SUBJECTS, AN ALTAR WHERE YOU SACRIFICE MEN OF THREE METALS AND ASK THEM QUESTIONS (FREDDY?), GERMAN CODE BEING RELEVANT (???), ONE OF THE MAIN ARABIC SCHOLARS OF ALCHEMY WAS PRINCE FUCKING KHALID (like, ya know, SAMAMA KHALID??).
I'm only TWO CHAPTERS INTO THIS BOOK and already had like five points where I'm gleefully reading it and suddenly going "...wait". I will go insane before S1 even ends.
I fucking love antibiotics yesterday this time I felt like I was shoving a cheese grater down my throat and now I'm slightly uncomfortable??? Fucking amazing I love science
I wish gay people were real and not just made up for hit 2010s steampunk cabaret band The Mechanisms 😔
