Sam Wilson wasn’t one to care too much about height, he supposed. He was already tall enough to be considered manly by most American’s standard men, and childish things like comparing heights to others weren’t something Sam would worry about.
But there was something about the height between Bucky and Sam, something about Bucky being just a little taller than Sam. Something about the way Sam cocked his head a little when Bucky called his name, the way Bucky cast his eyes down, the way his eyes were so innocently infatuated in love with Sam that he didn’t bother to hide it. Something about the way Sam’s hand have to reached up, behind Bucky’s head, his fingers tangling in Bucky’s long, silky brown hair, the way Bucky’s head tilted slightly in response to Sam’s touch, the way his handsome face and that summer-sky bright blue eyes leaned affectionately closer to Sam’s sweet honey brown eyes. Something about the way their bodies were pressed together, with Bucky’s arm on his waist and Sam's arm on Bucky's shoulder. A slight tilt, a slight angle gap between them, Sam dragged back and Bucky leaned forward, a deep passionate kiss share between their lips... Something about the way Sam trembled in his arms, the way Bucky gasped for air but grinned widely when the kiss ended while his arms were still wrapped around Sam, holding him longer in the moment.
Something about that tiny space between them, not large enough for Bucky to overwhelm Sam but big enough to make him feel protected in his arms. For someone who had never cared about that small difference between them, well, what to say? Maybe Sam did care a little now.

You know what rocks about Sam and what they’ve kept consistent for years?
Everyone around him has his back 100%. And his confidence in that doesn’t shake. He relies on people, listens to them and talks to them like they’re family, and as a result everyone is ready to back him no matter what.
Layla being his inside woman because he doesn’t fully trust Ross (and he shouldn’t) and Sam not once questioning her loyalty. Also showcasing that Sam will always try to be 2 steps ahead of people cause he doesn’t fucking play!!!
The special forces having Sam’s back and following his orders without even blinking if he needs help or to get shit done.
Even in the mundane moments, the people in the bar and the bar tender just acknowledging him and throwing up their bottles in salute. Or when we first meet him at the VA. This man has been a leader for years and a man of the people long before the shield was even in his possession.
Natasha being impressed by his prior work in the falcon program, fury immediately wanting to recruit him, he’ll even Tony fucking stark having to go to him for help in civil war, and Steve agreeing to Sam’s plan of leaving the rest of them behind while he and Bucky go to Siberia. No one else could have convinced Steve to leave the rest of them behind to be arrested, but Sam did.
Scott’s devotion to him too, Sam asked him for help and Scott didn’t even blink when he was called. He just got his ass up and flew to Germany.
It’s no wonder why Joaquin looked at him like a deity, Joaquin knew what he was looking for in a captain and never left Sam’s side.
Don’t even get me started on Bucky, we already know he puts Sam on a pedestal that no one else can even dream of reaching.

Mm so the thing I said the other day about how sam feels about bucky... just to add a ship lens to that:
I think that after sam forgives him and wants to be friends again, there's a lingering weirdness. At first he thinks it's just because of the unpleasantness, then he thinks maybe buckys just a weird guy.
But then he realises. Bucky isn't weird. He's weird about Sam.
I think Bucky's "say what you need to say" is really important because he's giving space to Sam to express himself honestly and openly. He's telling Sam he's a safe space. How many times has Sam (and others) done that for him? I just think it's nice to see him return it when it was Sam who needed the support.
Tfatws and all of mcu sambuckys canon relationship is actually a lot more interesting if you think of them as individuals who have thoughts and feelings about each other

Bucky and His Books - A Headcanon List
So I'm going to be posting a new fic tomorrow about Sam loving Bucky, who loves to read, and so I thought I'd post my headcanon list that inspired the fic I'm posting tomorrow.
Bucky will use virtually anything to mark his place in the book he's reading except bookmarks. Like, he'll use a receipt, a sticky note, a scrap of paper, a broken shoelace, a leaf, anything except a bookmark.
He doesn't dogear pages (he considers that fine if you want to do it to your own books, but do NOT do it to his books).
If it's a really good book, he'll write little notes in the margins or underline passages he really liked.
People have given him bookmarks to use, and he keeps them in a drawer in his desk at home because he doesn't want to use them, but he appreciates the gift.
There's at least fifteen bookmarks in that drawer. Sam gave him three of them before realizing that Bucky just won't use them.
Torres once borrowed one of Bucky's favorite books and left notes in the margins responding to Bucky's or notes of his own, and now that book is one of Bucky's most prized possessions, and he keeps it on the top shelf of his bookcase. That was also when he and Torres became actual friends rather than just coworkers.
There are hundreds of books in their house. Books in the living room, books in each of their offices, books in the bedroom that used to be Bucky's but is now the guest room, books on the end tables in the living room, books in a neat stack on the kitchen table, books on a little shelf in the bathroom so Bucky can read while he takes a bath, a book inexplicably on top of the fridge, books everywhere. Sam finds it exasperating at times, but he never says anything because the books everywhere make Bucky quietly happy.
Sam suggested Bucky getting an e-reader exactly once. The lecture Bucky subjected him to is legendary in the Wilson household. No one ever brought it up again.
Bucky makes faces when he reads. Like, the book will make him feel a certain way, and he'll make the expression to match, whether that's a cringe or a smile or even a blush. He is not aware that he does this. Sam finds it adorable.
Bucky always gives everyone a book or an audio book for birthdays and holidays in addition to their other presents. Each book is painstakingly selected for each individual, and he starts agonizing over these decisions months in advance. If he’s giving a physical copy of the book, he always selects it from his own bookshelves rather than going out and buying a new copy. He always writes a short inscription on the inside cover of the book, explaining why he’s gifting this particular book to this particular person.
Sam recommends Bucky read one of his favorite authors, and Bucky buys every book by that author and starts reading their entire collection of work the very next day. Sam has not even read their entire collection of work.
Sam never gives Bucky books as gifts because he can't ever keep track of what Bucky has and hasn't read. The exception is the day he proposes. He hands Bucky a book with the ring tucked inside, marking the page with a highlighted passage that says, "Will you marry me?"

Fundamentally, being insecure about your partner ex is a thing that can happen, yes, but please apply it to the correct character.
Sam Wilson would NOT be insecure because Bucky may have been with Steve. You got it twisted.
Bucky would be insecure because Sam and Steve have dated, or Steve would be insecure because Sam and Riley dated. THAT I would believe.
But Sam? No. In fact there’s more chances that Sam wouldn’t even entertain the idea of dating his friend’s ex to begin with.
Or your versions of the characters are really, really far from what is on screen and all they share is the names. You can’t see how Bucky looks at Sam and then tell me Sam would be the one unsure about being worthy, this is just complete nonsense.
The more I think about it, the more the first ep of FATWS it makes me laugh because Sam absolutely COULD have winged it and caught Bucky after he threw himself out of the plane but petty as he is, he just let Bucky figure it out on his own and then sent Redwing to gloat about it.
Man was pissy as hell Bucky didn't return his calls.

Anthony being announced third in the Doomsday line up is actually so important to me.
One of the first names announced? He better be front and center on the posters baby I’m so fucking serious
but can we seriously talk about sambucky wedding rings? I've heard people say Bucky might put his on a chain around his neck or wear it on his right hand because of his prosthesis. But I believe Sam would have it fitted with the metal in mind because Bucky absolutely needs everyone to know he's married to Sam Wilson. He's committed to having a ring on his left hand and Sam already knew that

Based on this post where Bucky finds Sam's board that's filled with pictures of Bucky with strings pushed into it when he was trying to find him back in 2014-2016 and Bucky puts post it notes grading him if he was correct or not. People in the tags commented about this spinning off to a proposal and this was born.
This is my first finished fic in years so, I may be rusty. I hope y'all enjoy!
One day, Sam looks over at the board again— amongst all the chaos and dangling string and pinned up pictures and paper…
He tilts his head, squinting, before blinking his eyes.
There, on the map, is a new picture, stuck through with a blue pushpin.
Familiar brick, that doormat given by his nephews, the dark wood door.
Home.
100%, scribbled in black sharpie, across the surface of a bright yellow post it.
But what catches his eye—
“Will you marry me?”
Sam turns his head, footsteps creaking the wood underneath Bucky’s feet. He’s wearing a suit, not uncommon these days, but something different than the typical navy and grey suits he’s pilfered from Sam’s closet along with his ties.
No, there’s a svelte silhouette to his form, as if it’s important the fit is right. He’s in a three piece wearing a pin attached to the lapel.
And in his left hand is a small, velvet box.
The words on the post it note ring in his head as Bucky steps closer toward him.
“You found me,” he says, close enough his heat emanates from his body, seeping deep into Sam's own.
His eyes, those nowadays soft eyes, hold a glimmer of trepidation, but also hope.
“I sure did,” Sam replies, smile smug. “I’m good at what I do.”
Bucky’s other hand is warm when he reaches out, his thumb resting over Sam’s knuckles in a solid grip. There’s a slight tremor that seems to ease and settle when he brushes his thumb over Sam’s skin.
“Wouldn’t want anyone else to try and find me.”
“Well, you said I was 100% right on the last time I found you. No one can top that.”
A smile blooms across Bucky’s face, his eyes glowing.
“You’re right.”
Sam laughs, the joy bubbling through him, light and airy and warm.
“Can I get that in writing? Or better yet, on video?”
With a flick of Bucky's vibranium thumb, the box gently opens.
“Only if you say yes.”
Sam shakes his head, the line of his grin softer but no less strong, his eyes peering down at the ring gleaming in the lights of their home.
“You drive a hard bargain there.”
Bucky releases his hold, the absence creeping in, until he pulls the ring out of the cushion. Sam’s hand is still hovering in the air when the cool metal slides along his finger.
”What, do you want me to beg?”
The box snaps closed; Bucky’s hand slips into his pocket before drawing it out, resting his left hand on Sam’s waist. His other is holding Sam’s, thumb resting on top of the ring.
Their bodies draw closer, not quite a dance, but movements of a beat they’ve done so often, it’s like breathing.
Sam’s lips brush against Bucky’s, not quite a kiss.
“That could be a start.”
Their foreheads are pressed together, touching, gaze so focused all they can see in the reflection of their eyes is each other. Their hands warming the other’s waist.
“Say yes and I’ll do anything,” Bucky declares.
He tries one more time.
“Marry me?”
He strains to hear in the silence but his enhanced senses register Sam’s whisper like a yell.
“Yes.”
The taste of triumph, of victory, of finding peace and home, is on their lips, and steals their breath before they part for air.
They don’t move far away, foreheads still leaning against each other. Sam’s smile is a bit devious now, a cheeky twinkle in his eye.
“Gonna hold you to that, husband,” he says, and Bucky just laughs.
“Whatever you want, sweetheart. Whatever you want.”
