I’ve been preparing to start my masters after a one-year break from academia, so I’m a little apprehensive about getting into essay writing again. I found a great resource on my University’s website, giving a universal guide to writing a First Class essay. If you’re about to start your first year at uni, want a refresher, or are taking essay-based classes at your high school, this is the post for you!
Use a wide range of relevant sources, well understood and fully appreciated.
What do I need to do?
Read beyond the recommended reading given to you or the textbook in class. Can you explain what you’ve read to someone who isn’t studying your course - if not, do you really understand it?
Ability to set sources and view points in context and evaluate contributions. Methodological awareness and theoretical appreciation.
What do I need to do?
I posted here about the WHAT-HOW-WHY paragraph structure. The critique is your WHY. WHY is the source written in that way? What was the context of the time or geographical location where it was written? Can either have impacted the writing? What are the limitations to the source - have they avoided discussing something that you believe vital to their argument? Critical thinking is the key to obtaining the highest marks in an essay.
Excellent answer to the question. Locates suitable concepts and makes a comprehensive assessment of issues involved. Understands the relevant theories and applies them to answering the question.
What do I need to do?
Answer the question. It seems silly but answer the question. What are you actually being asked to talk about, and are there any limiting factors (e.g. a specific time period)? Make sure that everything you’re saying is relevant to the question. If you’re anything like me, going off on a tangent is second nature. A good tip is to read your essay aloud to yourself - if you can sense you’re waffling on about something, then cut it out.
Well structured and planned. Clear, articulate style (good spelling, grammar, and syntax.) Proper referencing and bibliography. Confident presentation and appropriate length.
What do I need to do?
Plan plan plan. I never really understood the importance of proper essay planning before I got to University, but it really cannot be emphasised enough. Try and plan in a cyclical sense, taking a thematic approach to your writing and ensuring your main thesis argument is clear throughout your writing. It can be good to break one large essay into 2 or 3 smaller ones, but make sure that they are well connected and don’t read in a disjointed manner. Linking your introduction and conclusion can be an excellent way to ensure that your essay reads fluidly. Another top tip for writing a conclusion is to point your reader to further reading in the area you’re writing about - this helps to place your work as part of the academic conversation on the topic.

Hi, It’s been a few months, I hope everyone is doing well. I found these pair of pants randomly in the black hole of ea’s unusable and hidden clothing, and realised that the design actually had a lot of potential although the mesh did not. It also had only one swatch, so I added a couple more. overall I think these turned out really well.

Urbanization
· The process by which the population of cities grows
· Currently 400 cities have over 1 million inhabitants
There are two basic dimensions of urbanization:
Increasing Percentage of People in Cities
· The percentage of people living in areas determines the development of a country
o In MDCs ¾ of people live in urban areas
o In LDCs 2/5 of people live in urban areas
· A consequence of changes in economic structure during the past two centuries is the higher percentage of urban residents in MDCs.
· Rural residents have migrated from the countryside to work in the factories and services that are concentrated in cities. This results in the higher percentage of urban dwellers
· In MDCs the process of urbanization that began around 1800 has largely ended, because the percentages living in urban areas cannot increase much more.
· Recently, in LDCs, percentage living in cities has increased because of migration. This migration is due to workers looking for work.
Increasing Number of People in Cities
· MDCs have a higher percentage of urban residents, but in LDCs the cities are physically bigger.
· 6/10 of these most populous countries are in LDCs: Buenos Aires, Delhi, Jakarta, Seoul, Mexico City, Mumbai, and Sao Paulo.
· The urban areas in LDCs dominate both lists of largest urban areas is remarkable, because urban growth historically has resulted from diffusion of the Industrial Revolution.
· London was the world’s largest city in 1900.
· The rapid growth of cities in the LDCs is a reversal of the historical trend in Western Europe and North America created by the Industrial Revolution and isn’t a measure of an improved level of development.
Defining Urban Settlements
Social Differences Between Urban and Rural Settlements
o Louis Wirth, a social scientist, defined a city as a permanent settlement that has three characteristics: large size, high population density, and socially heterogeneous people.
· Large Size
o The social relationships within settlements are highly affected by the urbanization of the settlement.
· High Density
o Usually, when there’s a high number of people living in a small place, they all must have specific jobs in order to keep the settlement running.
· Social Heterogeneity
o Urban settlements tend to be more diverse and open to differences. In rural areas it is often expected to be like remotely similar to everyone else and unusual aberrations are more likely to be noticed and disapproved of.
Physical Definitions of Urban Settlements
· Legal Definition of a City
o Defined as an urban settlement that has been legally incorporated into an independent, self-governing unit.
o In the U.S., a city that is surrounded by suburbs is sometimes called a central city.
· Urbanized City
o In the U.S., the central city and surrounding built up suburbs is called an urbanized area.
o An urbanized area must consist of a central city plus its contiguous built-up suburbs where population density exceeds 1,000 people/persons per square miles.
· Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)
o Method of measuring a functional area of a city by the U.S. Bureau of Census
o Includes:
· Urbanized areas with a population of at least 50,000
· Country within which the city is located
· Adjacent counties with a high population density and a large percentage of residents working in the central city’s county.
o An issue with MSAs is that some MSAs include an extensive of area that is not urban.
o Micropolitan statistical areas are Smaller urban areas that includes
· Between 10,000 and 50,000 inhabitants
· County in which it is formed
· Adjacent counties tied to the city
· Overlapping Metropolitan Areas
o A county between two central cities may send a large number of commuters to job in each.
o BoshWash Corridor is the Megalopolis in the US that reaches from Boston to Washington DC
sooo i recently dropped my selenite sphere :( which was very upsetting. i saved all of the pieces and had been wondering how to best use them. i ultimately decided to make a powder.
selenite- purification, removes blocks to healing, angelic protection
eucalyptus seeds/ leaves- healing/protection/purification
jasmine- love/money/prophetic dreams
marshmallow root powder- protection/psychic powers/purification/love
these were the ingredients i decided on. i ground them all together, beginning with the selenite because it was the most difficult + i said a prayer and imagined my personal intentions for the powder. every ingredient i used is associated with the divine feminine, the element of water, and the moon, making it a super potent powder. i’m not going to be using this as a bath powder, i’ll most likely be using it in moon rituals/candle magik/floor washing etc. also, it smells nice and looks lovely :)
[[this would also work as a fertility powder. both selenite and marshmallow root powder are associated with fertility. also, the addition of the eucalyptus seeds, symbolizing birth/fertility]]

A couple people asked me to post the spell for the spell jar I made the other day! This is the first spell I’ve posted, so let me know if you need clarification with anything. I’m happy to answer any questions 💖
This spell jar is intended to create a stronger connection with your loved one and protect the connection from weakening.
Note: Any of these ingredients can be substituted, omitted, or things can be added for a more specific intent.
What you’ll need:
A cute jar! *Himalayan Pink Salt - friendship, love and purification *Rose Petals - healing, love and protection *Peppermint Leaves - love, lust and protection (use tea if you don’t have mint leaves on you!) I also used peppermint flowers because they’re so pretty 😊 *Coltsfoot - love and peace *Rose Quartz - friendship, happiness and love *Amethyst - peace and protection *Apple seeds - love, protection and purification. (And fertility if that’s what you’re going for) *Lavender - happiness, love, peace, protection and purification *Jasmine - love Incense - I used strawberry for love (and it smells really good!) but you can use jasmine, rose, or lavender if you’d like! String (pink if you have it!) White and pink candles A funnel for the herbs if you need it!
* - going into the jar
So first I layered all of the ingredients in the order they are listed in the jar. Focus on the correspondence you feel in each item as you place them into the jar. Then, I sealed the jar with white and pink wax. Practice fire safety when doing this, please! And don’t get wax in your carpet like I did.
Next comes the string - it’s a perfect opportunity to incorporate knot magick if you practice that! Visualize the connection between you and your lover growing tighter and stronger as you pull the knot closed. Giving it a few extra tugs doesn’t hurt!
Finally, I passed the spell jar through my incense and sung a love song. If you’re not comfortable singing, try saying a poem out loud that reminds you of your beloved!
I’m planning to give this jar to my beloved on Valentine’s Day, but you can always give it to yourself for some self-love 💕
