Character/Story Tropes We Need More Of #1

⛧ Characters who genuinely suck at magic/combat/whatever the “thing” is but are still allowed to go on the adventure because they bring snacks, emotional stability, or a shovel.

⛧ Best friends who stay best friends even after one of them gets a god-tier promotion and the other one is just vibing in their mortal mediocrity.

⛧ Emotionally intelligent villains who are like “yeah I had trauma but I got therapy, I’m evil for other reasons now.”

⛧ Main characters with low charisma but high wisdom who don't win hearts but do win battles of logic and slowly get respected by being right all the time.

⛧ The “smart one” who's not a secret badass, not hiding a tragic past, just genuinely obsessed with fungi or cryptography and refuses to hold a sword ever.

⛧ Fantasy worlds with actual working public transportation. I’m so serious. Where’s the transcontinental dragon train or goblin-run subway system.

⛧ Teen protagonists who don’t want to save the world because they're already dealing with algebra and anxiety and one more prophecy will break them.

⛧ The hot morally gray character who thinks they’re mysterious and broody but is actually very bad at lying and everyone sees through them immediately.

⛧ Introverted characters who stay introverts. They don’t “learn to open up,” they just learn to mask better and set boundaries. That’s growth too.

⛧ Characters who actively un-romanticize violence instead of getting turned on every time someone pulls a sword. Please. Therapy.

⛧ Platonic soulmates. Yes, the “I’d die for you” bond, but no kissing, just trauma-bonded telepathy and shared snacks.

⛧ Chosen ones who are like, "you know what? no." and hand the glowing destiny sword to someone else while they go open a bakery.

⛧ Divorced parents who co-parent like competent adults instead of using their child as a battlefield.

⛧ Neurodivergent characters written like they’re people and not teaching moments or quirky plot devices. Bonus if they’re not even labeled, just exist.

⛧ Healers who have zero bedside manner but are really good at their job. “Oh, you’re dying? Sucks. Hold still.”

⛧ Female characters who are allowed to be weird, loud, gross, hairy, messy, and not secretly beautiful the whole time.

⛧ Lazy heroes. Not out of cowardice. Just genuinely do not want to get out of bed. They still save the world. Eventually. After coffee.

⛧ Stories where someone who did awful things doesn’t get redemption, but does get held accountable and still chooses to be better anyway.

Some Actually Useful Questions to Get to Know Your OC Part Two

↳ What lie do they tell themselves to sleep at night? Seriously. What’s the little piece of denial that keeps them functioning? Do they pretend they don’t care what people think? Tell themselves they’re over that one person? Convinced they’re not the villain of someone else’s story? We all lie to ourselves; your OC is no exception.

↳ What’s their emotional kryptonite? A specific thing that absolutely shatters them, like someone crying? Being ignored? Praise from a parent figure? The sound of an old song? The smell of something nostalgic? Find it and use it against them (lovingly, of course).

↳ When do they feel the most alive? Is it mid-battle, mid-baking, mid-breakup? Does adrenaline light them up, or do they find joy in the quiet, mundane things, like folding laundry while listening to sad girl music? This can reveal a LOT about what drives them.

↳ What would totally ruin their day? A bad haircut? Someone touching their stuff? Or is it something deeper, like being reminded of their failures, or seeing someone else succeed where they couldn’t?

↳ Who do they think they should be? And who are they really? This one’s juicy. Do they think they should be a hero, but keep acting like a villain?

↳ What’s the one thing they’d never admit out loud, even under duress? The shameful thought. The inappropriate desire. The thing they desperately want but don’t think they deserve. DONT FORGET: Characters are built on what they repress.

↳ What are they petty about? Don’t pretend your OC is above this, I mean everyone’s petty about something. Do they hold grudges over stolen pens? Get irrationally jealous of someone’s hair? Still mad about a game of Uno from 2007? Petty makes them fucking real.

↳ How do they act when they think no one’s watching? Do they let their mask slip? Dance around the kitchen? Talk to their cat in baby voice? Cry a little?

↳ What would make them snap? Where is the breaking point? What line has to be crossed for them to finally say “Enough”? Is it injustice? Betrayal? Feeling powerless? You’ll know you’ve found it when it scares you a little (Or a lot).

↳ If they had a theme song, what would it be? No, seriously. The vibe of a character’s soundtrack says a lot. Is it Angsty indie rock? Bubblegum pop masking deep pain? Make a playlist. Your OC will tell you who they are... <3

I've decided to take on the task of explaining my little yap in this comment:

ANYWAYS

First of all, wtf even are quantum physics??

Quantum physics are a branch of physics which focuses on the subatomic, the nitty gritty wonky shit we can see under microscopes

Let's start with this: did you know that the atomic model made by Schrodinger actually is the most accurate one we have (so far)?

As you can see, the atomic model evolved over time, going from Dalton's ball to Schrodinger's cloud

But why the hell is it a cloud?

It's not like they turned out to be actual, negatively charged clouds instead of subatomic particles, no. It's due to electrons being in constant motion, meaning we can't tell exactly where they are and all we can do is bet that they're in certain positions (which got calculated and stuff blablabla, tons of probability talk mimimi) until observed

Which brings me into another point, superposition!

When we say that something is in superposition, we mean that it's in an unclear state until observed and as an example I'll use the famous Schrodinger's cat...man

(I put it together while writing all of this btw)

Imagine the Catman in a box with a poison which will kill him once a radioactive atom connected to it decays (usually by ejecting either a part of its nucleus, an electron or a gamma ray but which type of decay would happen here is irrelevant). Until we open the box to check if he's dead, or alive, we can't be sure

And yes, that makes him both dead and alive at the same time (which I'll get to later)

That box situation puts him in superposition and thus checks off Schrodinger's Cat(man) paradox at once :3

Also no Catmen got hurt during the experiment ":3 /silly

Staying with superposition for a moment longer, we can move to the observer effect (or as I worded it in the comment: "how observing something influences the outcome"). For it, we gotta get to the double slit experiment which is the best example of the observer effect in action!

The double slit experiment is about how doing something can have different results depending if its process is being observed as it's going on

When observed and documented, the experiment gave a fairly straightforward result, with the conclusion being that electrons behaved like the particles they are:

But, once not observed and only documented afterwards, it gave a very... intriguing result, with the electrons acting more like waves than particles:

Now, it may either mean that the particle-wave duality of, well, particles is real, also that maybe the photons messed with the trajectory of the electrons which made them act "normal", or maybe that a conscious observer somehow messes with reality itself?

Okay, don't ask me which one it is (it's not the last one don't be ridiculous, the observer they used wasn't a sentient being but a machine) but it surely proves that us observing something will change the results!

Now going back a little, remember the part about Catman being both dead and alive? Yeah!

That relates to the concept of quantum immortality (and quantum suicide BUT dw there won't be any actual talk about kys /info)!

Quantum immortality is a concept rooted in quantum mechanics and discusses the possibility of living seemingly endlessly through the splitting of the timeline whenever you're in a deadly situation

And quantum suicide is when you're in the timeline that ends with you being dead

(Yes, it relates to the many-worlds interpretation which is about how there are endless versions of our world which "split off" whenever something happens, creating pretty much a multiverse that could be proven scientifically... maybe... someday)

And now my favorite quantum twat and his family, STRING THEORY AND M THEORY

String theory states that instead of elemental particles (e.g. electrons, up and down quarks, gluons, higgs bosons, electron neutrinos etc.), we have one dimmensional planck length strings in their place which vibrate in a certain way that results in them functioning as specific elemental particles!

Basically, everything being made of strings and not particles at the subatomic level

However, we can't prove it directly (via observation), because in order to see if they're here or not, we'd have to shrink photons so much, we'd create kugelblitzs (black holes made out of heat/energy/radiation) and see nothing

The M Theory encompasses the various versions of "the superstring theory", which tries to make quantum physics work with all fundamental forces (strong & weak nuclear forces, electromagnetism and that pesky gravity). Of course, gravity has to be a diva and make things extra complicated (which, btw, made various theories about it spark up, such as the theory about gravity being made of particles called gravitons)

So almost all of MCU is boring, Disney is cringe nowadays (unless we're talking about Disney-Pixar or Pixar, then there are hits and misses), DC films are god awful (the animated movies are something else and they are mostly peak though) and anything in between is a sleeper or also mid as hell

The movie polls on here are always “no” sweeps, why does no one watch movies anymore?

I don't like Star Wars, MCU or DC movies and the Disney remakes are crap. That leaves me watching streaming mini-series, classic films or foreign films.
