Allow me to make use of tumblr’s new longpost shortening feature for a moment to say HEY… the comic we’ve been working on for the past year is live with *11 episodes* you can read RIGHT NOW.

my best tip for anyone trying to get back into reading is to remember that you can read books to avoid other responsibilities in ur life and it can become a vice if you play your cards right
soooo, on a vacation trip a week ago, I stumbled over @xiranjayzhao's Iron Widow in a book shop in Copenhagen and devoured it last weekend. It was quite the fun read. (And I am not that inclined to mechs 😄 but the rage filled female power fantasy and the setting felt rather refreshing to me) And after finishing the book I had to get at least some art out of my system. As usual it didn't end up what I really intended it to be in my head initially, but also, as usual it has to suffice for now or I'll never post it.
I don't know what I miss more, having free time to draw or these fellas
The raven cycle!!!!
Oh I love these guys. Everything about these books, I want to draw them soooo much more (I probably will)!!
Guys I'm back-
It has been a nightmare lately this is the only thing I managed to draw in weeks? Finals and uni stuff that's taking all of my time and energy, slowly turning me into a cafeinated slug (worst part is caffeine doesn't even have an effect on me? I only drink coffee for the TASTE can you imagine). Anyway the rush won't be over until end of January but hopefully I'll be able to ignore the stress and draw anyway :)
the response that gets me is “well i don’t read.” okay. not everybody enjoys reading. but your thought process doesn’t have to stop there! let’s think laterally and apply this question to a form of media you to enjoy and engage with regularly. can you name a black woman who is a…
tv/movie creative?
podcaster?
youtuber?
music artist?
stage actress?
visual artist?
dancer?
there are many many subcategories within each of these, including specialities, genres, and professions, and i promise you there is a black woman doing amazing stuff in every one. maybe even several!
these broad categories, especially tv/movies and music, will have their own big five. if you can name them, try going deeper by naming one in a specific genre you enjoy. how about a genre that a friend of yours enjoys? a genre you want to engage with more than you currently are? talking to people In Real Life and having goals or plans for the media you want to enjoy are also (alongside google) useful tools for combatting passive/unconscious bias.
this is literally such a quality critical thinking skills addition to the original post
if, like me, you had to manually import your rebirth stats to retribution, you may already be aware that failure to set your curse of choice results in sidestep swearing with “Oh no!” but if, like me, you get swept up in the story and don’t notice any awkwardness of dialogue til far too late, you might get completely blindsided by this and end up pissing your pants
