Bowynn Gods: Khammii

Bowynn Gods: Khammii

Khammii  (Kham-My)  Khammii are the Kii (spirits) of freshwater bodies, such as ponds, streams, lakes, rivers and so forth. They are said to be of human size, very beautiful and live either in the waters they protect or on its shores. Unlike Mermaids, the Khammii do not have fish bodies. But they can turn into westland animals like fisf, herons, egrets, bitterns and otters. The beauty of the Khammii is depicted in many of the sacred tales. The sadness comes when one learns how protective the Khammii are of their waters. So much so, that mortals that abuse their waters fall to a dramatic ending. Other times sacred stories speak of a mortal and a Khammii that have fallen in love and either one or the other dies, in an attempt to live with the other. Clearly a warning as to how dangerous bodies of water can become.

The Khammi can be compared to mermaids or water nymphs, but the gender of the Khammii is mixed; some are male and some female.

My Prayer to Dadjall

O Dadjall, Son of Kalma and Chumash, gracious guide of the departed souls from the shores of Evermore to the luminous realm of Daunnat, I humbly seek your presence in this sacred moment. You, who traverse the most wondrous landscapes ever born, lead the spirits with love, compassion, and gentle authority. With your charming smile and steadfast heart, may you continue your labor of love, guiding each soul to the embrace of your beloved parents. O Handsome Wanderer, adorned in shades of black and burgundy, with your staff and crystal orb, I call upon you to be the shepherd of the lost. Let my heart be filled with confidence, for your loyal companion, the dog by your side, embodies the fidelity of love that transcends worlds. Bestow your watchful gaze upon the departed, ensuring they find peace as they journey toward Lord Chumash and Lady Kalma. In reverence, I lay before you the sacred offerings of incense, fragrant blooms nourished by earth, and fresh water to quench the thirst of those transitioning from life to afterlife. With votive candles aglow, may they shine like stars on the path you forge for the souls you guide, illuminating their way toward the eternal union of love and light.

As you shepherd the spirits across the horizon, may each soul’s essence echo in the hearts of the living. May my life be a testament to the love you share with the departed, and may I strive to reflect your nurturing spirit in my care for others. So shall it be, in honor and adoration of Dadjall, the beloved guide of the souls, forever wandering in the beauty of the realms beyond.

My Prayer to Daekk, Lord of Fortune

O Daekk, Glorious Child of Wealth and Fortune, I stand before you, seeking the embrace of your bountiful gifts. You, who dwell in the splendid chambers of Alaway, amidst treasures adorned with lapis and gold, I beckon your innocent spirit to grace my path. With your golden locks and amber eyes, you embody joy and prosperity, guiding us through the currents of abundance. O Divine Infant, transformed by the wisdom of Anhur, grant me the clarity to see beyond mere appearances and superficial riches. Let your laughter ring out amidst the clinking coins and flowing grains as you dispense blessings to all, untainted by bias or pride. May the warmth of your spirit fill the hearts of those in need, that they may also know the sweet taste of fortune's favor.

In humble reverence, I lay before you offerings of coins, fragrant incense, and the sweet milk of the sacred herd. As the mice serve as symbols of fortune, I send forth votive gifts in their likeness, invoking your protection over my endeavors. With these offerings, I present play money inscribed with my deepest prayers, to be buried within the earth alongside a seed, so that as the plant sprouts, so too may my fortunes flourish. O Daekk, from your heavenly cradle, nurture my ambitions and aspirations like the rich soil of Alaway that bears fruit in due season. May I not only seek abundance for myself but take inspiration from your benevolence to share with others in need. Let my hands be open to receive and my heart expansive enough to give freely. As I summon your playful spirit, I pledge to judge not by wealth nor appearance but to celebrate the diverse paths of prosperity in my life. O Daekk, Eternal Child of Alaway, may your blessings flow unceasingly into my heart, guiding my actions and illuminating the lives of those around me. So shall it be, in reverence and love for Daekk, the generous spirit of wealth and sustenance, forever illuminating our lives with abundance.

BOWYNN GODS: QUILLA

BOWYNN GODS: QUILLA

Quilla  (Kwil-lah)  Goddess of the Spring season. She is the daughter of Morrighynn and Herne, sister of Kora, Myliea and Tarna and the consort to the god Lyan. Her name literally means "Spring."

Few tales are told of Quilla and her sisters. She is the youngest of her sisters, born in the first day of spring. She and her sisters were always bickering and contesting against each other over various things since their birth. Quilla contested with her sisters for which season they would rule over. Quilla created colorful flowers up from the ground. This and because of her love for pastel colored clothing, her folks granted her the season of spring to govern over. Thus, on the first day of winter, Quilla's sister Myliea, goddess of the Winter, departs the land, while Quilla appears on the first day of spring on a magnificent roan-red horse; bringing the defrosting of the land, growing of the flowers and birthing of animals.  The other grand sacred story tells of Quilla’s sacred marriage to Lyan, god of the East.

BOWYNN GODS: QUILLA

Quilla is seen as a young female figure refined with strawberry-blond hair laced with spring flowers. She is clad in pastel colors of green and pinks, with pastel color trim. Her hlad is of the same tones. Sometimes she is said to have a Daddalo [himation] or Stola of pastel yellows. In her hand is often seen a staff of willow with ribbons wrapped on it. Other times she is seen with a basket of spring flowers. Sometimes she is said to be winged with white feathers. When about mortals she will take the image of a horse or a sparrow, her totem animals.

Sacred gifts to Quilla are Milk, Springtime flowers, votive images of red horses, sparrows, rabbits and of course incense. Most common gifts are wreathes of spring flowers.

My Personal Prayer to the Aetennii

O Aetennnii, Guardian Kii of the Bowynn cemeteries, I raise my voice in reverence to you, protectors of the sacred tombs, vigilant spirits that dwell amidst the resting places of the departed. With wings like the breeze and hearts firm as stone, you guard the hallowed grounds. Hear me, O cherished Aetennnii, your forms small yet mighty, circling the thresholds of the departed. I call upon your presence to shield the graves from harm, natural and man-made alike, lending your vigilance to the bones that lie beneath the earth. Together with Heron, deliverer of the dead, may you guard against decay and disturbance. In homage, I offer these sacred words, placing images of your essence at the gateways of remembrance. May the likeness of your wings inspire serenity in the hearts of mourners and honor those who have returned to the soil. I lay my gratitude at the entrance of each tomb, seeking your favor upon the treasures of memory contained within.

O Aetennnii, I beseech you, protect this sacred ground, ensuring that the sanctity of the resting places endures beyond time. When spirits wander, let your watchful eyes remain vigilant, preventing sorrow and safeguarding the peace that dwells among the stones. As I walk among the graves, may I feel your gentle presence guiding my respect and reverence. I celebrate your essence, O Aetennnii, protectors cloaked in feathers, embodiments of vigilance in the face of forgotten peril. Let the souls who find their peace beneath the earth be cradled in your care, their stories whispered through the rustling of leaves and the songs of the wind. In your sacred duty, may I find solace, O Aetennnii, for you are the guardians of history and memory. As I honor the departed, I pledge my respect to the grounds you protect. May the Aetennnii thrive in their charge, forever gracing the cemeteries with love, vigilance, and the whisper of wings. So shall it be, in the realm where the living and the departed coexist in peace.

Bowynn Gods: Mystara

Bowynn Gods: Mystara
Bowynn Gods: Mystara
Bowynn Gods: Mystara

Mystara  (Mis-tar-ah)  Mystara is the Bowynn goddess of all forms of magickal, mystical and esoteric arts. This includes Divination, Healing, Dream Work and all arts that can be filed in the term of being esoteric. Mystara is also the patroness to Mysts [witches,] diviners and oracles. All those that deals with the arts of mysticism falls in the realm of the goddess Mystara. She is the daughter of Ehrlik and a mortal woman, [supposedly] whose name is unknown.

Most of Mystara’s life is spent working with witches and other mystics, be it in temples, covens, circles, groves or solely in their homes. It is said that the goddess travels from town to town looking for the "wise ones" in the form of a cat. Accompanying her are sometimes the Hii, fae folk of the mystical and magical arts. Hii are also said to attend her in any workings she may labor over. Mystara has no sacred tales spoken about her or known. But she is spoken more than often in the here and now, attending Mysts [witches]in their own work, granting spells to manifest and making sure the spells cast are justified. Yet despite all this, she is a most important goddess in the Bowynn pantheon. She is revered by women and men equally, not just as a goddess of magick but also a goddess that protects Mysts and blesses new Mysts in rites of initiation and empowerment. For it is Mystara that raises young Myst's minds and bodies, to that of being a learned and powerful. Despite all this, Mystara is NOT a dark goddess. She is not clad in all black, she does not harbor wicked and evilness. There is nothing dark nor mysterious about Mystara. She will however attend to those who use the arts of magic in a malicious manner justly. Casting curses, hexes and binding spells will catch Mystara's attention quickly and she will make sure it is not done recklessly nor unjustly. Calling on Mystara before casting a spell is beyond common practice, so she may witness all goings-on. Mystara will punish those that cast spells wrongfully and vengefully.

Mystara is seen as a mother figure in appearance, with black hair that is veiled. Her clothing is said to be is purple and autumn-like colors, with gold or copper embroidery and jewelry. Encircling her brow is a crown that bares the runes that make up the Bowynn alphabet, which is also used for divination. When not in her godly form, she is seen as an elegant black cat with glowing blue eyes; the cat being her totem.

Sacred to Mystara are all the symbols of magic, divination and other such arts, as well as votive images of cats. Though the most gifted offering one can give to her is bundles of incense. Traditionally on certain holidays of the year, Incense sticks in the multiples of 100 are burned to Mystara as offerings. the numbers 100 and 7 are a most sacred number to her, so any offering given in amounts of 100 and 7 appeases Mystara a great deal. And 7 is the most scared number in the Bowynn faith.

Bowynn Gods: Nyalla

Bowynn Gods: Nyalla

Nyalla as The Cleanser, The Purifier and The Anointer

Nyalla  (Ny-ah-lah)   Goddess of ritual cleansing, bathhouses, sweat lodges, saunas, and hot springs. Nyalla is the daughter of Tane and Kauldra. Nyalla has also been named “Nyalla Noma” and “Nyalla Lhaunomaea” meaning “Lady of the Bathhouse.” Nyalla is also considered the goddess of meditative baths and meditation places in general. She is thought to not only protect the buildings but help the mortal body relax, cleanse and heal; physically and mentally. Through the steam of such places, Nyalla helps the body and mind lift away what ails it, clearing it of impurities and making it whole again. At the same time, she gives words of wisdom through meditation and the steam.

Nyalla is said to “be the rising of the steam” and the “hot water, the cooling of the air, the scent of the herbs and oils and the opening of the mind.” Nyalla is also the goddess of smudging and cleansing rituals. Often, she is seen with Abbennaea, the goddess of offerings and gifts.

Myalla is not a three-fold or triple goddess, as there is no such concept in the Bowynn faith. She is however spoken of as having 3 distinct aspects: The Cleanser, The Purifyer and the Anointer. In a rare few times, she has none more title: The fumigator. All of these are distinct processes to cleanse the body and the mind. This Nyalla is also seen as a medicinal/healing goddess.

There are few sacred tales of Nyalla. One of the few says that she was the one that blesses all of the goddesses of the Akua in sensual baths before they wed. That on the eve she blessed Rhya’s bath and cleansing, Rhya in turn gave he a vial of her own tears of happiness. And it is from this vial that Nyalla blesses all mortals with. It is also said that Nyalla was one of the many of the Gods of the Akua that spent the 7 sacred nights with the first tribes of mortals. During this time, she showed the women folk how to keep their bodies and minds clean. She showed them how to build and tend a Bath House in a scared manner, as well as how to properly use the bathhouse in a spiritual manner for omens and visions.

Nyalla is seen a sweet young woman in rather simple clothing. She is said to be seen lingering around houses and spaces of meditation, where she is found gathering stones or wood for the fire or drawing water for the steam bath. In her godly form, she is seen as a young woman in simple clothes of reds and saffron colors. Her hair is said to be braided in many long rows, sometimes being tied up, sometimes hanging down. In her totem form, she is seen as a lizard or salamander

Sacred gifts to Nyalla are incense blends, vats of water, vials of oil and votive images of lizards and salamanders. Sometimes a special offering of a poppet of the goddess is left for her.

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog and found it very interesting! Do you know of any good sources to learn more about the Bowynn tradition?

Actually, I am probably the only source at present. the Bowynn Tradition was formed by my pagan group back in the 1980's. Sadly between my moving, Covid and host of other events within the last 10 years, our congregation disbanded. Since then I have people like yourself asking about it. So, I am using Tumblr to host a general guide to the faith and lifestyle.

You are welcome to ask me anything you wish. The Bowynn faith is "an open book" for anyone to explore."
