I saw some people saying “Annie should suffer more for what she did instead of sleeping for four years in a crystal” and I'm like… hell NAH, bro didn't just call four years of sensory deprivation "sleeping" 💀 She was fully conscious for four years, deprived of sight, touch, movment, taste, smell, with only a few muffled sound stimuli when Armin or Hitch came to her for a one-sided conversation. You don't know what sudden and prolonged sensory deprivation does to a person (spoiler: nothing good, really). I was kinda shocked that Annie was even sane after breaking free from the crystal, dude….

But like, Levi has feelings for Erwin, and Moblit has feelings for Hange, but they both know they won't be loved by them in the way they want to be, so they keep it to themselves. But SOMEHOW (maybe during their time at the bar, when tipsy Moblit gets too talkative) they find out about their unrequited loves and how much it hurts them to be around the person they love but can't hug them, touch them, tell them they love them, and... I don't know, after a while their sad confessions turn into something more physical, but it's a substitute. Not in a, y'know, sexual way, just… closeness. Closeness, touch, words, time spent together, during which they close their eyes and think about someone else. It's quiet and shy, immersing oneself in fantasy with every tender gesture and word. It's comforting to have someone who understands and to allow someone to be understood in this difficult situation. It feels good to be able to pretend that you are the only one for someone so dear to you. But both of them know deep down that it's not right.

And maybe, at the end of the day, they'll end it without regret, not bringing it up again, just sweet memories of pretend affection.
