Is there really any question? According to Niall’s own words, he’s about as scary as a baby penguin, but he’d definitely stand up for his friends anyway.
Niall’s not really an aggressive person, so he doesn’t get outwardly angry or possessive that we’ve seen, but his way of being protective is by being supportive and cuddly.
That was the the day on X Factor when Harry was so sick with nerves during their rehearsals.

the first time eddie visits your home, if you have a dog, he will absolutely toss you to the side and baby talk the animal and just lay in the floor with them
alternatively if you have a cat, he will play with their toys and let them climb all over him (if you have a kitten it may or may not end up being carried around in his jacket pocket the entire time he’s at your house)
