I Really Want To Get Into Math. What Book Do You Recommend Reading!

I really want to get into math. What book do you recommend reading!

Great question! Here are some fun ones that are still informative and that really opened up my eyes to what math truly is:

How to Solve It  by George Polya. This is a classic and the title speaks for itself: it is about how to reason mathematically.

Hyperspace by Michio Kaku. This one is mathy and sciencey. It is very geometrical and shows how our view of geometry has changed throughout history and how it has influenced science. Kaku is my favorite author.

Proof and Refutations by Imre Lakatos. Another classic. This one has to do with how mathematical proof advances our mathematical knowledge, in other words what professional mathematicians do. It is also surprisingly funny.

Further Maths - Mechanics Mixed Exercise 2

Doing some mechanics questions to practise because it does my head in… I got this book from my parents earlier, as it’s an old present they found - looks super interesting! Today’s a funny day bc everyone’s waiting for the football tonight haha

// July 🌿

// july 🌿

july’s shaping up to be a really busy month! my gold practice expedition was at the start of the month, i’m doing some recruitment for the digital leaders group at school, we break up next week and then i’m going camping and straight on holiday! i did actually have a good time on my expedition, despite my boots being completely soaked by the third day and the inordinate amount of midges.

in terms of my theme for this month i decided to stick with the florals and go for a wildflower theme. it’s quite drawing heavy but i don’t have that much school work this month so hopefully i’ll have time to draw it all!

July 15, 2021

Here’s a screenshot of my Notion homepage for today! I got my template from here, but I’ve customized it a lot too! :) I’ve also started managing my work based on my energy levels and it’s literally so easy??? Like, I don’t know how I didn’t think of this earlier.

15th July - Are there any special events for you in the summer? (for example, birthdays, festivals, etc.)

If you count the college application process, then yeah

What does FTC say?

It says that if a person takes the derivative of a function and then integrates it over a region on the number line say [a, b] then this is the same as evaluating the function on its endpoints.

What does the Green's Theorem say?

Green's Theorem is the fundamental theorem of calculus in 2 dimensions.Instead of taking the derivative of a single variable function we take the curl of a 2 variable function.Instead of integrating this over a number line we integrate it on the xy plane.Instead of evaluating the function at the two endpoints a and b and taking the difference, we take the line integral of the function and integrate it around the curve in a counterclockwise direction.

What does the stokes' theorem say?

Stokes' theorem is the fundamental theorem of calculus in 3 dimensions. Instead of taking the derivative of a single variable function, we take the three-dimensional curl. Instead of integrating this over a number line, we integrate it on the surface (To evaluate the surface integral one has to dot the vector field with unit normal vectors). Instead of evaluating the function at the two endpoints a and b and taking the difference, we take the line integral of the function and integrate it around the curve on a surface in a counterclockwise direction just like in Green's Theorem.
