thinkin bout him (leonard nimoy)
When you have the time of your life daydreaming but realise it's maladaptive and you can't stop
how about this: when i was 9 and my stepdad beat me until i passed out and i told my friends at school, my teacher over heard and i was interviewed by cps. they also went to my house when i was at school. when i got home, my step father was waiting on the couch, and told me who visited him that day. he told me if i ever snitched again he would beat me to within an inch of my life.
how about this: my mother locked me out of the house when i was 14 and when i cried so loud the neighbors called the cops, the cop told me i should have been respectful of my mother who was trying to sleep.
how about this. the demon you know is less scary than the demon you don’t.
children in abused households are raised to fear the idea of being taken away. children in abusive households see that help makes things worse.
dont you ever blame an abuse victim for not going to the authorities.
Women can be investigated for murder for giving birth to a stillborn child or having a miscarriage. Rapists get sentenced to little/no prison and get off without even having to register as a sex offender. Women are still paid less than men. Condoms are free, but birth control is not and some states in the U.S. are even taking away the option for IUDs. After giving birth, women who have ripped their own flesh from the physical trauma of giving birth can be stitched back up and then given one too many stitches to make her “tighter” for her husband, thus why this occurrence is called “the husband stitch”. Men can get themselves sterilized no problem, but women often have issues finding a doctor who will sterilize them without them being married and having their husband’s consent.
Alright, so go ahead. Tell me how feminism isn’t needed anymore. Tell me why you think that any of the above situations are anywhere near the ballpark of being “okay”. But before you open your mouth, think about how you would feel if I had just told you the situation was reversed. What if I told you that men got paid less than women? That if a 12 year old boy got raped by another man, there would be no consequences for the rapist? What if I told you men needed their wife’s permission to get sterilized and if they weren’t married yet then they might have to wait until they are just in case their wife wants kids?
Sexism isn’t a joke. It’s a real problem that affects real people. It’s still a current problem. Just because women can vote and we’re allowed to own land doesn’t mean all of our problems went away.
reading letters from 1818 is wild
“it’s that time of the year when I get colds for no apparent reason again” have some Clairitin hon
I often work with children and it makes me kind of sad when I’m at work and I start talking to a small child and their parent says something like, “oh, she’s sixteen months, she can’t understand you.”
Like, 1. I know what a toddler is and 2. not with that attitude she won’t.
so this is a thing
a bunch of moms are making letters+audio recordings of affirming, validating letters to queer/trans* people who don’t get that kind of support from their moms
i would say more about it but
im kind of busy in this puddle of tears on the floor so
if your child flinches whenever you move, you’ve done something wrong.
if your child memorizes your work schedule and uses that as knowledge of when they can have a good day, you’ve done something wrong.
if your child is scared to tell you what’s wrong, you’ve done something wrong.
if your child gets in trouble a lot for your attention, you’ve done something wrong.
if their grades start to slip, don’t yell at or degrade them, help them.
if you’re child comes out as LGBTQ+, support them, DO NOT kick them out, harass them, ignore what they said, or tell them that they’re wrong, no matter what.
support your child, do your fucking job and be a good fucking parent because that’s what your child needs. they don’t need an asshole who degrades them or ignores them.
shoutout to all the straight girls out there who ask their lesbian/bi/pan girl friends about their crushes and their girlfriends the same as they would ask about their straight friends crushes and boyfriends. i don't think y'all realise how much that means to us
