i find that often i say “i’m sorry”
sometimes i feel it
others i don’t
i say i am sorry because i feel i’ve hurt another
i say i am sorry because i am told i’ve hurt another
at times i feel as though i have done nothing wrong
but a fear of confrontation,
of upsetting others,
confines me to a guilty feeling
and so i am forced to apologize
i am forced to be sorry
for the things i feel
i am forced to be sorry for
for things i did and didn’t do
i am forced to be sorry for being human
making mistakes, crying, sleeping, taking a break
i am forced to be sorry for everything i am.
