When I first read Shadow and Bone, I thought the twist was going to be The Darkling isn’t the villain. He was talking about peace, ending the wars and helping the Grisha. It didn’t make sense that compared to the monarchy he’d be the bad guy.
All Alina, the hero of the story, talked about was killing him and destroying the fold. Same with the others that were the good guys.
It will never make sense to me that he was the villain and Alina was the hero.
ben and jessie were literally the most searched cast members after s1 dropped. just because the fandom favors the crows doesn't mean the GA feels the same.
!!
Why are these people pretending that season 1 didn't have a huge number of non-book readers watching the show and being the most invested in alina and "kirigan's" story?
Ben Barnes is popular and pulled a lot of people who are not into YA fiction to SaB (I'm one of those people lol). Jessie and Ben had insane chemistry and their relationship was the most talked about part of season 1.
Sure in the book community crows have lots of dedicated fans but for a show to work you need GA too which they lost with season 2.
Also, are these people pretending the darkling hasn't been carrying the fandom since 2012?? He's literally leigh's cash cow. Her most popular character who has been featured in multiple different books of gregverse. DITW is still winning her awards lol.
No other way to describe it
Also this 😭😭
Look, I understand Alina needed to learn about Morozova’s work in the name of The Plot™, but how likely is that someone as old and paranoid as the Darkling would just leave his journals lying around? Originals?
The show “fixed it” by making him give the journals to David to study. Which doesn’t change the fact they’re somehow easy to read.
If ~I~ were hundreds of y/o immortal with unique records of secret research, I’d destroy them after making a copy myself using:
cipher
foreign language
rare dialect
dead language
combiantion of everything above
But hey, it’s not like language doesn’t shift in some 500+ years… yet the greatest challenge was understanding Morozova’s train of thought… not the words alone…
🥰🥰🥰
THEY
Au where Alina lies to her friends that she's going to the desert to kill the Darkling but really she just goes there to snuggle and nap on him because she misses him so much🥰♥️
Nikolai: “Once again, we find ourselves in dire need of the Darkling’s help! And by Saints, if I have to suck his dick to persuade him to cooperate, I’ll do it!”
Zoya: “Nikolai no! No one would ever ask that of you!”
Nikolai: *grabs Zoya by her shoulders*
Nikolai: “Darling, it’s for the good of Ravka!”
later:
Aleksander & Nikolai: *sharing post-coital cigarette in bed*
Aleksander: “Don’t you think your friends might be onto us by now?”
Nikolai: *remembers the horror and disgust on their faces, whenever he mentions Aleksander in any state of undress*
Nikolai: “Nope! We’re safe!”
i had to do it to them
comfort
I need these two:
to fuck in these particular outfits.
you know what i want a spin off of? i want a spin off of the years of the darklings life that are completely skipped over. i want to see him as a kid constantly on the run from people who want to kill him and use his bones, i want to see the things he's done for the kings, the deals his made that they'd sooner kill him and everyone like him then keep to, i want to see the reactions of himself and baghra and ravka and the world after the fold was created, i want to see the progress of how it made grisha useful enough to the royals to let darkling build the little palace, to make his own second army, to have grisha working at the edge of the fold to get people through safely. i want more of his backstory.
