“I want to remain an eternal mystery to myself and others.” - King Ludwig II of Bavaria
The Epic of Gilgamesh illustrated by Wael Tarabieh (½)
Do you ever think about how Hamlet starts after the king’s death - after Hamlet has fallen into depression - therefore, we have no idea of knowing what Hamlet was like before all of it went down?
Do you ever wonder what Hamlet was like before tragedy struck? Who was the man Horatio and Ophelia were in love with? Who was the man that the people of Denmark adored?
Because I do. All the time.
remember when u were like “man. too bad we couldnt have real gay rep in the shakespeare era….. so sad that we’re confined to subtext……. well, at least theres the coriolanus speeches………” and then u read marlowe’s edward ii and ur head got blown off ur shoulders

status plays a part in this with the sebastian-antonio and hamlet-horatio dynamic but corollary to that other post another devastating pronoun thing at work here is when the character who privately uses thou and publicly you for the other character (beatrice, horatio, antonio) is then thoued by the other one (benedick, hamlet, sebastian) but they still refuse to drop the you :(

this book website gives you the first page of a random book without the title or author so that you can read it with no preconceptions!!! great for discovering new recs
