"You know," TK said hoarsely, "if I had a nickel for every time I was kidnapped on the job, I would have two nickels".
"Which isn't a lot," Nancy finished. "But it's weird that it happened twice".
"What is that from?" Tommy asked. "I've heard the girls say that. Is it an internet thing?"
"It started in-" TK started to say before Tommy put an oxygen mask over his face.
"Anyone who wasn't told to rest his voice because of the trauma his throat suffered can answer," Tommy swiftly cut him off.
"Trauma is a little dramatic". TK protested weakly.
"Yeah?" Nancy asked, looking over TK's shoulder. "You think that he's going to think so?" TK shifted on the gurney and saw a big black SUV pull over into the farm driveway. Two Texas rangers in full riot gear got out.
TK groaned. "How did he know we were here?"
"Dude, every law enforcement in Travis county knows we're here," Nancy told him as Carlos ran over. "Hi, Carlos".
"Nancy". Carlos said, not looking at her or breaking his stride until he reached the gurney that held his husband. "Oh my God". He wrapped his arms around TK, then stopped. "Wait, I can't do this. Am I hurting you?"
"Babe, I'm fine," TK rasped, returning the hug with his good arm. "You can hug me all you want. You didn't need to come all the way out here".
"I didn't?" Carlos said incredulously. "TK, you were shot! Again!"
"I wasn't shot". TK protested weakly. "I was shot at. There's a difference. The bullet was like...way far away from me".
"What's wrong with your voice?" Carlos asked. "And why does your neck look purple?"
"That was from when he was hanging off the roof and the guy was choking him," Nancy chimed in.
"What.... he..." Carlos bristled, looking around.
"Babe, it's fine," TK said, holding on to Carlos with his good hand. "They already took him away. I'm just going to the hospital so they can x-ray my shoulder".
Carlos sighed. He cupped his husband's face in his hands. "I can never let you out of my sight. Can I?"
"I mean, I'd be fine if you didn't," TK grinned.
"TK, what did I say about resting your voice?" Tommy called.
"My husband's here, Cap," TK rasped.
"And he's not going anywhere," Carlos said, hugging his husband again. "I'm going to start taking you to work with me".
