Yes! You coined the term advwitch for a reason. So we can have discussions with like minded people. I just want to talk and make friends. I'm in South Central Kansas, I'm not around many witches, pagans, or anything magical. I'm in Trump land.
I miss the good old days of witchblr. Does anybody else remember like we could read whatever we wanted, and we could post about it? And sure, there were people that didn't care of the book or topic. The difference between then and now is that it was a discussion and not a beat down session. And then, people were kind enough to offer other book titles!
Also, we had a clear set of guidelines referring to cultural appropriation, and words or phrases that were frowned upon. Other then that, you want to be a Death Witch, go for it. A Sea Witch, have at it. A Storm Witch, power to ya. The lists goes on. Then, if we were curious about there practice we would ask genuine questions! If the practitioner maybe did something that maybe you didn't like or thought was borderline on the no no list, again you didn't beat them down, it was a discussion.
The ones that couldn't handle having a informal discussion were simply blocked and their comments were deleted. Or in some cases, the post was deleted, which was pretty common, and occasionally remade.
Also, side tangent, we liked the titles of the different witch types, because it was our niche and it was organized. Sure, you don't have to have a title or a certain practice, that's fine. As for me, I like having a title or a type because it keeps me focused on what I want to achieve. Plus, having a title made the witchblr tags so much easier to navigate.
I hate adulting, and I especially hate having to adult even though my IBS is flaring up. But hopefully, I can go for a walk today. Then I need to summon some weather witches, actually all the witches. Certain states have had tornadoes, Oklahoma and Kansas, had fires and dust bowl conditions with how bad the wind has been, and now there is word of snow!
is there like some secret tag that advanced practitioners use? as much as i enjoy seeing all the witchlings in the #witchblr tag, i would like to engage with other folks who have been at it for a while.
Crystals are often thrown out because of their New Age ubiquity, but what I think a lot of people don’t realize is that they had uses before the New Age movement. Crystals are just shiny rocks. And as rocks– as a part of the earth– they have a documented place in folkloric witchcraft.
If you want to start looking into classical crystal stuff, get a copy of The Curious Lore of Precious Stones by Kunz and save yourself the headache of sorting through nonsense. In it, I was able to locate uses for various stones that were historically backed-- onyx separates lovers, moonstone arouses passion, bloodstone could be used to raise a tempest, etc.
I will admit that store-bought crystals aren’t my favorite things in the world. I find that usually the rocks around my neighborhood get the job done for free.
There’s rocks with quartz inclusions by the river’s edge. These make excellent spirit houses.
Smooth stones can anchor glamours and illusions.
Hagstones can give protection and Sight.
Jagged stones can be a great base for a hex.
I have about 2 or 3 crystals that I use on a regular basis– one because it’s the first magic item I ever bought, and one I received as a particularly uncanny omen. But that doesn't mean I disregard the whole field. Like I said, anything is useful if you know where to look and how to use it.
Okay now that I got the bitchiness out of my system a bit, let's see if I can write a bit on """"rules"""" of witchcraft as I would like to see them.
Stop bitching about other people's practices and focus on your own. If you spent a lot of time worrying or raging about how other people practice, how will you ever grow your own? Focus on yourself and your own power and let other people do their thing.
Other people's practices are inspiration, not goals. On the flip side, if there is someone who you look up to, or someone's practice you love seeing, take it as inspiration for your own, but don't look it at as a goal to achieve. Firstly, what people share online is not the whole of their practice, and secondly you're not them and their path is not yours.
Be curious. Why are people harping on "black and white magic"? Why are Starseeds bad, but Alienkin and Starkin are fine? Why is cultural appropriation such a bad thing? (If you answered "because racism" on all three of these, have a cookie!) And not just curiosity about these concepts, but also about correspondences (Why are red roses a symbol for love?) or ingredients you have in your home (will this basil work as well as rosemary for this spell?) or other paths and techniques, or spirits, or -- you get the point. Once you know the "why" you can use your own discernment. Does this work for me? Do I agree with the why? Etc. etc.
Be respectful -. To other people, to other practices and cultures, to spirits and deities. Find out their customs and cultures if you can, and act accordingly. Did you know that not saying "thank you" to the Fair Folk is only a custom in Irish and Scottish folk tales? Yeah, exactly.
-But don't be terrified. You're a witch/wizard/warlock/unicorn/whatever dammit! Act like one! Witchcraft is about empowerment, so be fucking empowered! An anarchy saying is "no gods, no kings, no masters". As a polytheist witch who works with the Fair Folk for me it's more "lots of Gods, some Kings, no masters!" I meet them with respect, but on equal footing. I experiment because if I screw up, well, I'll have learned something, and I've learned a lot about getting myself out of weird stuff.
Have fun. For fuck's sake, your practice is supposed to bring you joy. If it doesn't bring you joy or make you feel fizzy with inspiration and energy, try something else. If you need to, toss the whole thing out and start over. Trust me, it helps.
While on break today, I came across some new products perfect as a gift or treating yourself. Astrology isn't my thing, but I did find these new trinket boxes.
For another Dollar Tree find we have those yearly Astrology books. I don't know how good they are.
I was also thrilled when I turned and looked I found a plastic organizer with compartments and a lid.
I figured I could use it as an DIY altar kit or something else witchy. The middle row is raised so there is room to put some bigger supplies or a carefully folded altar cloth.
✨Anything to help others find ways to save money, and still feel magical while doing it. ✨

With my boyfriend and I getting sick before the holidays, my car radiator going out, and then all the ice and snow, we were finally able to get out of the house. When we got home, I lit some candles and I wanted to bring some life into our little house. I already suffer from clinical depression and anxiety, but even he has been feeling cooped up too.
The crystal grid is Sunstone at the center, then Citrine, then Clear Quartz. The Bee tarot deck is my absolute favorite at this point in time.
