One thing that kills me every time I see it in mash is this damn sign
this sign, with it's comforting words "best care anywhere", doesn't face road or the people entering the 4077- it faces the soldiers and doctors leaving it
here you can see radar and hawkeye driving away from the 4077, surely having read the sign as they left
I both love and hate to think that it faces that way on purpose, that the doctors and nurses and surgeons within the unit are the ones that really need the reassurance that they're doing a good job, that they're competent, that they're skilled, that they're providing the "best care anywhere"- they need the reassurance more than the wounded do, because their care being the best anywhere also means that their suffering hasn't been for naught

fellas is it gay to become overly invested in a rivalry with someone you secretly deeply admire almost directly after being divorced by your spouse? it’s just a distraction, yeah? one that fulfills me in ways I can’t say aloud?

Hawkeye’s favorite color being red. cheery red. red because it’s the direct opposite of drab army green. red itself being a form of protest. red symbolizing the protest against american militarism central to hawkeye’s character.
and on the other hand
red being the color of blood. red blood splatter painting hawkeye’s scrubs in every episode. red blood covering hawkeye’s hands as he desperately tries to patch up the holes the army has put in men, women, and children’s bodies.
red being just as much a symbol of war as it is a protest against it
