(It’s been some time, but it’s here!
More notes under the cut!)
-Ok, first of the issue of nationality. I was going crazyyy trying to figure out WHY the ruins of a mid-evil European knight would be in Brazil. But then I saw this one post suggesting, that he may have been a Spanish knight, who had been accompanying a royal figure when the Spanish went to South America. That made enough sense for me, so now that’s just canon. The time periods is where I draw the line, this is good enough for me.
-So, Durbe is Spanish and I love Latino Durbe more than I thought I would. He also definitely calls Ryouga Spanish pet names.
-Next up, he is bisexual and I will DIE on that hill. You can pull that headcanon from my cold dead hands. He is so fucking bi for Nasch and Merag, you cannot convince me otherwise.
-Ok, let‘s do past life first. Since I now headcanon him as Spanish, I gave him accurate traditional Spanish knight armour. And long wavy hair. Because what screams more „Spanish knight“ than long wavy hair- AND A BEARD. I love Durbe with a beard, I wanna draw that more. (Though I think in the present Durbe would shave more, which makes Ryouga sad, cause he liked the beard)
-Also he would have always been squinting, because this man is BLIND without glasses. But they weren’t even invented in his time, so he just had to suffer. He is so damn nearsighted, he can only see what’s right in front of him. But therefore he honed all his other senses, being able to sense where his opponent is by merely hearing and even smelling sometimes. I imagine he would have been badly bullied for his bad eyesight and his goal of becoming a knight, but he just trained hard to prove them all wrong and became the best knight in the entire kingdom.
-He had always been perceived as intimidating, his squinting being mistaken as glaring, but he is actually the nicest person you will ever meet. Except if you‘re his enemy. Then he will beat the living shit out of you.
-Him and Nasch also absolutely were secret lovers. Or they thought they were secret, but like the whole castle knew. I believe their first meeting would have been like this: Durbe travelled on Mach to Nasch‘s kingdom, when they were younger and Nasch‘s father was king, because he had to deliver a message from his king. But he got caught in a storm and was found by Nasch and castle guards. So now he had to stay and recover and that was when he got to know the twins and even offered them sword training, cause he is a MASTER at sword fighting. Eventually he and Nasch fell in love and Durbe travelled over as often as possible to see him (which honestly was sadly not that often, cause of the distance and his duties to his king)
-The end of his story remains the same, only that, after hearing of his death, Nasch was so depressed from the war that he threw himself off a tower into the ocean.
-Now then, present time. Durbe absolutely gives off history major vibes. So that‘s what I did, because of course he will study in history major, specialising in his and the timelines of his fellow emperors, to ensure that nothing wrong is being passed on.
-He also is still a horse boy. He wears his riding pants and boots to go and ride horses almost every day. Ryouga and Rio will sometimes join him, because they still know how to ride horses. So yes to Tomoshipping Horse riding date. Also Mach is alive and happily living on a horse farm where Durbe visits him, because I said so.
-Also HE FINALLY GOT HIS GLASSES. He was flashed, when it was revealed that Ryouga and Rio are Nasch and Merag and he now ACTUALLY saw what they look like with glasses. Because of course he already thought they were beautiful, but now he sees them in like 4K. He had never believed that they could be even more attractive than they already were to him (when they were just undefined blobs)
-He is still practicing sword fighting as a hobby, because he just can’t shake of the instinct of protecting his loved ones with his life. He always wants to be ready to defend his friends and family.
-He also wears the friendship same bracelet with Rio and Ryouga and a promise ring from Ryouga, like the matching rings Ryouga has with Rio.

In case it needs to be said, there is no need to credit me if you use any of these sheets for anything - they're not mine! I'm just an animation fanatic doing a little archival! (And a lot of these are scanned by people other than me anyway!)
This collection includes every sheet that features anything notable. A lot of sheets look very similar (for example, shading guides are just base character sheets with added shading) but for archival purposes they're still included, even if they're largely the same. Every reference sheet is named for easy browsing, but if I've made a mistake anywhere, please let me know!
I'll still try and collect more sheets as I keep checking if any go up for sale on sites like Mercari, but I offer no guarantee that I'll have many more scans to offer anytime soon (it is costly!)

-Okay so first of, he/she/they Mizael. Mizael is above something as human as gender. They just represent as whatever they‘re feeling right now. Wasn’t different in his past life, he was raised by a dragon. I think Jinlon told her to be whatever felt right for them.
-I also headcanon Mizael as Androsexual, so only attracted to men. Specifically to Kaito
-And it was already canon that she was Chinese, so I just kept that.
-Now, if you didn’t know, Mizael was actually first designed to have black hair, so I did that for their past life. But then I thought, how did it suddenly change to blonde? Well, it didn’t! He just decides to dye it blonde, hence the black roots. His Barian form still has blonde hair, but Vector‘s hair also changes from orange to grey, so I don’t think this’s too much of a stretch. The curls are also not natural, he uses a hair curler. This is also not his default hair, she always wears different hair styles, I just really like curly haired Mizael. They also braid their hair for the night, so sometimes the curls stick in the morning.
-Mizael is already a tall bitch, only the second tallest Barian, because Girag is such a hunk. But they always wear heels anyways, because they like to tower other people. It makes him feel superior. And yes, she can run in them.
-They are the fashionista of the Barian household. You will never see Mizael going out of the house looking anything other that gorgeous.
-I made his Barian necklace smaller, because I did not realise that it was a necklace in the first place. Now it actually looks like it.
-She has painted nails, because the Barians (Rio) invented a self care day and everyone joins in, because they all actually feel better after it . Very refreshed and mentally in a better place. He and Rio always paint each others nails.
_Also Mizael is a good cook and baker. He wasn’t at the beginning though. She always has to make his own food, because they need 3 warm meals per day and the other Barians just don’t need that, so he learned to cook for herself and with time he got really good after multiple cook books and courses The baking part is where Kaito comes in, because in this house we ship MizaKai. Since I think Kaito and Haruto both have a sweet tooth, Kaito more so than Haruto, Mizael would learn to bake for both of them, but he only gave them her first perfect result. The Barian household had to act as her taste testers and it took a while for them to not be scared that someone is going to the ER because of Mizael‘s baking.
-Mizael was just born to serve cunt, but the directors were cowards to give us actual cunty Mizael. Fine, I‘ll do it myself
-OK. PAST LIFE.
-I know Mizael canonically used a sword, BUT THAT‘S BORING. Almost every other Barian also uses a sword. I can accept Nasch, Merag and Durbe, but those are IT. I actually thought about giving him a lance at first, but then I realised: How tragic could I make this? Bow and arrow. Imagine, that Mizael was a really skilled archer and I mean REALLY skilled. She is such a natural at archery, never once in their life has he missed a target. But then Mizael and Jinlon were killed by arrows. And now Mizael can’t even bring himself to even lay their eyes on a bow, because the feeling of being pierced by hundreds of arrows always comes back to him and she’s just so traumatised by it. If there was another season, I would write a character arc for him, where they could learn to overcome their trauma and use his skill again (In a very dangerous situation where a loved one is in danger probably and she has no choice, BUT THAT‘S FOR ANOTHER TIME)
-Mizael’s hair was also long af in their past life. I‘m taking down to her knees at least. I’m thinking if maybe his hair was forcefully cut off, before his execution, to explain why he has shorter hair again as a Barian and human, but I think I‘ll leave that up to imagination for now.
-I also added the golden dragon to the clothing in honour of Jinlon.

-I actually really like Alito‘s human design, so I didn’t change too much about it. I kept his white greyish pants and his red top, but left some buttons open. I also wrapped up his sleeves, so it looks like he’s always ready to fist fight someone.
-I gave him some more gold accessories and an expensive watch, which was a birthday gift from Merag, since the Kamishiro‘s are still mad rich and she knows he likes to feel fancy.
-He also does boxing as a hobby, because he still has his massive fighting spirit. He trains together with Girag, sometimes Nasch and Mizael too
-His hair covers up his right eye because it‘s partly blind and he can’t really see through it. It‘s also way lighter than his left eye, so people who see it may confuse it with heterochromia at first.
-The story about hs eye goes a bit back. As we know Alito had been a roman gladiator. He was very young when first fighting in the colosseum, about 14-16. He and his mother had been living as slaves, when their owner offered them a deal. Alito wins a match in the colosseum and they’re free. What he didn’t know is that he’d be fighting against a live lion. No one expected him to succeed, but against everyone’s belief, he beat the lion with his bare fists, but in no way coming out unharmed. He got several scratches from the lion, and also lost his right eye. The reigning emperor had been so impressed by him, that he immediately offered him and his mother a big place to stay near the palace. Under the condition that he would continue to fight as a gladiator, as the emperor enjoyed his fighting spirit.
-Over the years Alito had become one of, if not the most known gladiator in all of the Roman Empire, as the lion-fist. He never used any weapons, he fought and won each and every one of of his matches. Except of course his battles with the emperor himself, which always ended in ties.
-And I know what some of you are thinking. Yes, I think he had romantic feelings for the emperor, maybe even was in a romantic relationship with him. Which made his betrayal even harder for Alito, as he couldn’t understand how his beloved could ever do something like this to him.
-He was also the oldest amongst the barians to die. In other words, he lived the longest, up to 32 years.
-I made his hair shorter, so it would be more practical to fight and he grew a beard over the years
-His armour was also a custom made order from the emperor, as a gift to Alito and sort of as a sign, that he was the emperor‘s favourite gladiator.
-Alito gave all the prize money, that he won in the tournaments to his mother, so she could live an easy life. After Alito’s execution and after the emperor came back to his senses he made sure to treat Alito‘s mother to best life he could possibly give a as some kind of compensation for his grave mistake. But he felt guilty for the rest of his life. (He probably also threw the guys that framed Alito into the lion den or some shit, they definitely paid for what they did)
