Humans, for the most part, don’t have a clue. They don’t want one or need one, either. They’re happy. They think they have a good bead on things. Men In Black (1997) | dir. Barry Sonnenfeld

Otherkin ≠ Mental Illness

A mental disorder (also called a mental illness, or psychiatric disorder) is a diagnosis, most often by a psychiatrist, of a behavioral or mental pattern that may cause suffering or a poor ability to function in life.

Identifying as otherkin is not, by itself, mental illness.

Identifying as otherkin is not, by itself, unhealthy.

Identifying as otherkin is not, by itself, a delusion.

HOWEVER

A person who identifies as otherkin may also have an unrelated mental illness.

A person who identifies as otherkin and has a poor ability to function as a result, may be mentally ill.

Identifying as otherkin is not an excuse for bad or anti-social behavior.

FURTHER

It is not okay to bully and harass people who are mentally ill.

It is not the job of random Tumblr users to determine if someone is mentally ill or not.

The stigma that “mentally ill” people are “bad” or “crazy” is harmful and needs to end.

I just love *clenches fist* talking about character analysis and why characters act the way they do. It’s supremely satisfying to figure out motivations of characters and see how that ties into their core nature and how they perceive the world around them.

Hey real quick: kintypes are you.

If you have a kinlist with a lot of kintypes that you relate to or you connect to rather than those things being you, then you may want to look into otherhearted/fictionhearted or synpaths.

Another quick note: being otherhearted is not “lesser otherkin”. It’s just a different experience that some people have and can be as important in a person as a kintype.

“that character has a canon partner/death/ending/etc u have to respect that :/”

me:

“that Character Has A Canon Partner/death/ending/etc U Have To Respect That :/”

adults, while forcing all children above the age of 5 to sit still, be silent, and obey orders for 7-8 hours a day with minimal breaks, reducing their exposure to fresh air and sunlight to almost nothing, forcing them to alter their natural sleeping patterns to increase productivity, and repeatedly telling them their self worth depends on their being able to follow these instructions perfectly for 13 or more years: kids these days are so lazy! they never go outside! they never want to do anything! clearly it’s not because of us!

If you were a character in your f/o’s media, you’d be the fandom’s OTP. There’d be gifs and edits and playlists and fanart and everyone would love you as a pairing!

I personally believe that as a universe is written or created it comes into existence, and that time is fluid and non-linear and so all universes are always happening in the past, future and present all the same. This is why I have a hard time thinking my "kinself" is any different from me now, because I exist in the past, present and future. AUs and stuff are the same, in that they become a separate world with existing framework, just different. Just offering someone else's take on it. :3

Great perspective, anon! Very interesting.

“I Don’t Think You Understand That Those Characters Are Just Fictional-”

I've discovered that I might be fictionhearted with a species of self-aware alien technology. I knew them since childhood, but for many months they come often to me in my dreams. I would enter their holographic dimension, and even shift as one of them in these dreams. As I am aware that I'm already otherhearted with faeries, they could share this similar energy; they're both entities whom are concerned with Earth's wellbeing. Am I on the right path of idea or just imagining this?
