You should come at a time that makes it impossible to not come. Let the scars on my hands from the shackles I tried to break off begin to recently heal. Let there be such darkness in my eyes, let whoever looks should think I’m blind. Let my cheeks dry up from my tears, my lips cracked. You should come at a time that makes it impossible to not come. Let me pass through a thousand loves and think of none. Let none complete my sentences, Let none bring night to day, Let none’s smile’s each second be engraved in my mind as yours, Let none’s dream be kept in my mind beautifully, Let none’s trace be left on my body. You should come at a time that makes it impossible to not come. Let no one turn moments of my cries into screaming sobs. Let my hands melt on no one’s even if they go around. Let my lips twist enough with no one’s name as I say your name. Let each body I try to replace go on a path with the sand flowing one by one. You should come in weather that I thought I forgot, that I gave up, that I didn’t love Let each particle keeping me alive in my veins resist gravity. You should come at a time that makes it impossible to not come…”

Library Girl | Peter Parker

One visit to the library was what started it all. When Peter arrived at the library that day, all he needed to do was study for the calculus test. He had no idea what that visit would bring. As he read through the text book, a soft sob grabbed his attention. He looked up and saw a girl sitting a few tables away.

She was crying. Peter frowned and began to rise from his seat. He thought about asking her what was wrong, but when he saw the book in her hand, he knew that it was that book that had made her cry. It interested Peter, he'd never really read anything that moved me that much.

He checked out the book she was reading later on. He cried too, just as the girl had done. And that's how it started. He went to the library more often, always sitting at the same table, with a perfect view of the girl. Every time he went to the library, the girl was there, usually with a completely new book. Sometimes she'd smile, or laugh out loud, or cry again, and when she did, he always checked out the book she was reading.

That was it, really, until he realised how gorgeous she was. She wasn't pretty in the normal kind of way, but god, when she smiled, it lit up her face in the best way.

He wished she'd notice him, sitting a few tables away from her, reading the book she was reading a few days ago. He wished she'd smile at him. He didn't have the guts to talk to her. He was afraid she'd turn out nothing at all like how he imagined her to be.

One of these days, he'd work up the courage to finally talk to her, ask her about what she's reading. And maybe she'd smile that gorgeous smile and tell him all about it and then they'd talk about all the books they'd read. But until then, he could only dream, and mentally thank her for the book recommendations. He loved them.

Somehow, he'd beaten her. He'd seen the book she was reading this time, and he'd read it over night. She was still reading it the next day, and so he waited. Maybe finally he could talk to her. Maybe this was his chance.

About twenty minutes in, he noticed she'd begun to cry. This was it. This was his moment.

He stood, mentally preparing himself as he was already walking over to her. When he reached her, he stopped, looking down at her with sympathy. "He died, right?"

She looked up at him, confusion in her glassy eyes. "What?" Her voice was soft, quiet. It was no wonder such a wonderful laugh had come from her with a voice like that.

"He died, didn't he? Your favourite?"

"How did you know?"

"I read that one recently. You were reading it, you're crying, it made sense. He was my favourite too," he told her. "Tissue?" He offered a small packet, and she nodded, smiling softly as she took it, wiping her eyes.

"I just - it was so unexpected. I mean, how? Why?"

Peter offered a soft smile. "Writers are evil."

"If that ain't the truth," she laughed. "You can sit." He did so, sitting opposite her.

"I'm Peter, by the way. Peter Parker."

how were you supposed to change – in ways both big and small – when your family was always there to remind you of exactly the person you apparently signed an ironclad contract to be?

“Why do you think people like films? It’s because stories are structured, have a shape, a purpose, a meaning. When things go bad they’re still a part of a plan, there’s a point to them. Unlike life.”

honestly it’s almost like our generation is set up to be lonelier & more anxious & more insane like imagine already being 20/30-something, the period of your life where you’re expected to be “at your prime”, in the middle of a climate crisis and a pandemic, under late-stage capitalism’s celebrity culture that conditions you to be as likeable & “marketable” as possible, where it seems like every lived experience should be watchable/profitable. & you look at the future you’re supposed to be working hard for & all you see is climate catastrophe meanwhile you scroll down a little & see a skin care ad that’s like “fight aging”. i haven’t said anything here that hasn’t already been said by someone else, but imagine being 20/30-something & normal
