Exactly. Percabeth is not just a rebound relationship but also completely based on trauma bonding. Percy and Annabeth have literally nothing in common in terms of personality, goals, and hobbies.

Reasons why I hate Percy/Annabeth that doesn't include character bashing.

THEY GOT TOGETHER LESS THAN HALF A DAY AFTER PERCY GOT DUMPED BY RACHEL. IT WAS FUCKING REBOUND. A FEW HOURS AFTER. WHAT THE LITERAL FUCK.

They got together in the middle of fucking funerals and burning dead bodies. And some of their close friends died - Silena, Beckendorf. What the fuck. Using the relationship to avoid processing grief, much? doesn't make for a good start. fUCKING RICK AND HIS STUPID "ROMANCE HEALS ALL THINGS-"

This is one of my many gripes with HoO. Rick should have really not included Percy in the main plot if he wanted others to shine. Or just done the whole "Romans were involved in the Titan War, and they fought against Kronos by assaulting his stronghold at Mt. Othrys" thing but with Percy and Annabeth. Because realistically, when everyone meets up for the first time, the Lost Trio should have absolutely known all of Percy's exploits. I refuse to believe that the campers at CHB didn't absolutely rave on about Percy. And the whole who should be the leader situation shouldn't have been a question at all. I mean the Savior of Olympus and the Commander of the Demigod Army of Olympus is among you, but by all means, fight about who to pick as leader. It's not like it's self-explanatory.

Plus, most of the time, they traveled by the sea routes. And it's hard not to make it all about Percy when they are literally in his domain. Plus, the whole Tartarus situation obviously highlighted Percy as well since he was the only realistic choice for someone who could survive Tartarus and fight his way through the pit.

And then some stans have the audacity to blame people who were hyped for Percy the most over the new characters arguing that they are the main characters not Percy. Come on you can't expect all the people who grew up with Percy Jackson books and absolutely love Percy to not be more hyped about his return.

Plus it would have been manageable if Percy was in only one or two books but Percy is 4 of the 5 major books and not just as cameos but literally a main character. So it is natural that he would overshadow the newer characters in comparison no matter what. Because at that point, no one in the Seven had anything that even remotely compared to Percy's feats.

Rick realized how much he fucked up by adding Percy into the story and had to change things up last minute. That's why BoO is such a shit finale. Percy didn’t even have a pov for the entirety of Blood of Olympus but he still he was the one whose blood Gaea awoke to and he was the key player in the last fight at Camp Half Blood. If Rick had been actually consistent throughout HoO and had the balls to continue with the story as is, then Percy would have been the Storm part of "To Storm or Fire the world must fall." Obviously, Percy can summon storms, hurricanes, and so on, but more importantly, we have clear information on which God is associated with storms. Poseidon is literally called Stormbringer multiple times throughout the original series, and Percy is his son so lore wise, logically, and also keeping with plot consistency. The Storm part should have been Percy.

Now, not only does it ruin the entire buildup leading up to the finale, but it also undermines the other characters who were almsot hastily shoveled into their roles in the finale. Jason deserved more and should have ended up in Octavian's position or higher. The Pontifex and so on. Frank should have made Praetor anyway, but I hate that all of his insecurity was resolved by giving him Mar's blessing and pulling a magical transformation. He deserved his own arc and to shine through his own strength and mindset. Leo's was decently done save for the whole Calypso Leo situation. Hazel was awesome in the last two books, but we totally needed more of her. Piper’s arc, I am not really sure about her. Feel free to reblog with your own ideas.

Don't even get me started on the whole Gaea being put back to sleep thing. That's an entire conversation in itself but the point is Rick chose not to exclude Percy or limit Percy's appearances in HoO then realized his monumental mistake and fucked it up at the last second.

when you get kidnapped and get your memories wiped by the queen of the gods for six months, have to trek across california, find this new camp of demigods, go on a quest to find their legion standard, get your memories back by gambling your life, fight off an army to defend this new camp of demigods, reunite with your girlfriend, get chased across the country by the demigods you fought to defend, fight your way through the deadly mediterranean, arrive in rome, send your girlfriend off for a suicide quest, fall into tartarus with said girlfriend, fight your way to the doors of death, escape tartarus, fight giants, get slapped back to camp half-blood, and then you get sidelined for the big fight because apparently you need to "take a step back"

This is so beautiful, so wholesome. When I say we don't get enough of Blackjack, I mean it. We totally deserve Percy and Blackjack shenanigans, Blackjack making Percy go broke over donuts, and just their banter. Hell, I would happily take a full segment of Percy feeding Blackjack donuts in a park fondly yet with an exasperated expression over the newest books Riordan has written like any day. Same goes for Percy and Mrs. O'Leary.

We deserve Percy just chilling with them, dealing with pet shenanigans. That would be infinitely more entertaining than a quest. We deserve it, Percy himself fucking deserves it after everything that's happened. And I mean Percy got one animal per book record in the orignal series. Rainbow the hippocampi and Blackjack in the Sea of Monsters, Bessie in Titan's Curse, Mrs. O'Leary in Battle of Labyrinth. And then every book after Percy's been deprived of animal companions. Come on, Rick, Percy needs a new animal on the account of all the trauma the guy's been through. Hell, he needs an army of emotional support animals. We, as a fandom, petition this.

Klayley were twin flames. They brought out the best in them and also the worst. They showed each other who they were and who they could be. They touched each other’s dark sides and brightened their bright sides.

Every emotion arose when they encountered each other’s presence. Love, hate, lust, indifference... And they never had an easy ride. As a matter of fact Klayley couldn’t be any other way.

The only quest in PJO that Poseidon didn't help Percy on, was the one that was Annabeth's (botl) and I think (I repeat: my opinion not canon fact) that speaks volumes about what Poseidon thinks of Annabeth.

I mean, if you look at it:

TLT: Percy's quest. Poseidon sends the pearls enabling Percy to escape from the underworld, and Poseidon returns Medusa's head to Percy and suggests killing Gabe. You know, if Percy wants to get rid of his abuser.

SoM: Poseidon literally sends Percy a bodyguard and baby brother all in one. When Percy asks, Poseidon sends Percy the hippocampi.

TTC: When Percy asks, Poseidon watches over Bessie and Grover as they travelled to Olympus ensuring they got there safely. On Percy's request, Poseidon puts himself on the line to save Bessie(and Percy's) life.

BotL: Nothing. It's only after the quest is long over that Poseidon shows up (on his bday no less).

TLO: Poseidon's sanddollar helps Percy turn the river gods onto their side. On Percy's request, Poseidon abandons his kingdom and joins the fight against Typhon, and uses Percy's plan to defeat him.

Like he probably won't say anything about Annabeth (Percy is own person and Poseidon probably recognizes that when he allowed Sally to have full custody of Percy he lost that right) but after how much trash talking Annabeth did about him in tlt? And saying his name in the same sentence no less - and we know canonically when one says the gods names they hear it - there's no way he likes her or is cool with Percy dating her.

And people wonder why there are anti Annabeth and anti Percabeth stans. It's because Rick and all the stans have shoved Annabeth up a non-existent pedestal of the smartest ( which she is not and it's not even close) and continue to still only consider Annabeth's goals and aspirations and trauma valid.

Think of it this way:

Respectfully, if your ship consists of character A repeatedly calling someone a nickname that is a substitute for the word dumb( as further confirmed by readriordan article), dismissing character B's trauma and opinions, consistently physically hitting character B , showing toxic and controlling behavior towards character B and blaming character B for their own kidnapping and amnesia? It's not the IT couple or the perfect relationship. It's the definition of an escalating toxic relationship.

At least accept that your ship is very flawed and not even close to the definition of perfect that you paint it as. And that it's run mostly by Annabeth's wants and opinions and goals.

And People Wonder Why There Are Anti Annabeth And Anti Percabeth Stans. It's Because Rick And All The

And these are not even all the feats. Well and truly, Percy Jackson is in a league of his own.

Manipulated literal primordial of the Earth into saving him over her own servant Phineas after challenging him, a literal seer to a poison trial. [I know it's mentioned, but still wanted to clarify on it]

Was successfully able to hold his own for a while in a tug of war [for the control of the sea] against Chardybis in her own domain, at age 13

Came up with the plan to use the river gods against the Titan Army and successfully convinced them to give their assistance

Figured out Ares was the deciever.

Singlehandedly defeated Hades and his army in minutes [Even with the curse, it was still beyond impressive]

Not just became a Praetor but did so in a week

Found out the way to triump over Geras

Beat Phobos and Deimos, two minor gods

Managed to drown and brainwash a Titan in waters of Lethe when he was heavily injured

Has killed more monsters than any other demigod in the verse

Has been called by Apollo to be the only one worthy enough of his service, a god's service after he turned mortal

Is the only one to survive the curse of Achilles without dying

Survived Tartarus [Don't Annabeth me, the only reason she survived was because Percy was there, I would like to see how Annabeth stans try and refute that, Nico also doesn't count cause he got captured soon after entering Tartarus]

Hermes, one of the Olympians went to Percy after losing the symbol of his power

Dionysus trusted Percy to protect his son, no one else

Successfully resisted Pandora's Jar [which is literally meant to tempt you beyond what mortals can resist]

And yet, there are still some groups in the fandom that call Percy dumb and that he needs Annabeth to tell him what to do. Tell me you haven't read the books without telling me you haven't read the books for sure. Percy Jackson is literally a strategic genius and the most powerful and influential demigod of this age or ever. If you count how many individual key strategies Annabeth has made over the ones Percy made; he has made higher and more successful strategies literally in each book. Imagine how low of a self-esteem you would have to have for you to see yourself like this even after saving the world more times that you can count. And how comments and behaviors of Annabeth or other characters enable this behavior. It's like a broken tape at this point.

Rick Riordan try not to make every "strong" female character be snarky and mean and insult and be obsessively toxic and hurt other characters, especially male character challenge extreme.

Rick Riordan try not to make all male characters stupid or unable to function without their significant others only to raise the status of other female characters under a fake, fragile mask of feminism challenge impossible.

Rick Riordan try not to pair up every single character and/or force them into the Hunters of Artemis and make them aro/ace challenge extremely impossible.

Rick Riordan try to write a book without piss jokes, pedophilia, victim blaming, excusing rapists, grooming, child trafficking, weirdly suggestive manipulation (not in a good way), ABSOLUTELY NERF complex characters, incorrect representation of Greek, Roman, Norse and Egyptian mythology, incorrect representation of minorities and smaller ethnicities/POC/culture, fake feminism, LGBTQIA+ community challenge MISSION ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE.

Rick Riordan try not to nerf your own plot and timelines and your own characters only to create cash-grabs that appease all fans by creating something "fanon" and promoting bullying, stereotypes, stupidity and toxicity and forget why the hell you wrote the series in the first place CHALLENGE. ABSOLUTELY. EXTREMELY. IMPOSSIBLE.

I forgot about this scene, but it makes so much sense. They totally get along well. I mean, Aphrodite is of the ocean, and her children are also by extension of the ocean. Percy himself is a child of the Sea. Percy has much in common with children of Aphrodite as his connection with naiads and pegasi is something he shares with them. Honestly, Aphrodite Cabin is the example of wasted potential. They could have had such creative abilities. Charmspeak was great if not heavily rushed. At times, it seemed to be a plot device and made for Piper specifically, which took the fun out of it. I headcanon that all of the Aphrodite cabin is besties with Percy; every single on of them, because not only does he respect them and doesn't underestimate them, he also shares certain common interests with them and is genuinely one of the best people to hang out with.

That's the thing about Annabeth. Her development is only surface level and one dimensional and limited to other aspects that don't cover her fatal flaw or judging persona. Her character is the one that keeps surprising in the worst ways possible, and as I often say, Annabeth is a character that keeps devolving.

Part of the problem is how Rick refuses to address her fatal flaw to the extent that is necessary. He goes on and on about Percy's fatal flaw, or even the fatal flaw of children of Hades like Nico and Bianca, and even Thalia at times but not Annabeth. And Hubris is the most lethal flaw out of them all, too. I mean, between personal loyalty, ambition, and holding grudges and hubris, it is definitely the most detrimental. Rick refuses to critically analyze Annabeth's flaws, and it's not one or two it's many.

And with that alone, coupled with his romance, solves everything attitude towards characters he's permanently ruined some great plot ideas, potential relationships, and even entire books.

Even in a relationship, Rick let's Annabeth be the one calling the shots and pushes her agendas on them so much so that he has made Percy who is the main character and the focus of many books turn one dimensional. His whole personality has become Annabeth. Do Percabeth stans understand that Rick is literally making Percy an entirely different person just to achieve the ship? When it literally goes against Percy's nature of heavily disliking being told what to do, let alone being controlled.

Do you ever think about the fact that Annabeth started out the series by setting up Percy to be bait for the Ares kids and not even giving him a heads up/back up about it? Like we don't talk about the fact that he had less than a week's amount of training under his belt, barely knew how to hold a sword and shield and he was up against 5 Ares warriors - the strongest kids at camp who all had a vendetta against him and weren't known for following the no-maiming rules?

And then at the end of the series Annabeth literally shoves Percy off a cliff into a river with no warning whatso ever where Percy gets beat up by a river god while Annabeth sitting in safety tapping her wrist impatiently. When he finally wins she's there comforting the god that just gave Percy a bleeding head wound and triggered literal years worth of trauma???

Like. This girl does not grow. At all. She has not changed one bit. And Percy at least snapped at her once at the beginning of the series even if nothing came of it. By the end? He doesn't even get mad - he's so used to being treated like shit with no respect and no loyalty he just accepts it. He jokes and romanticizes it as a way of coping. Its so sad.

That's PJO's no.1 couple? Really?

This is so well put. And I think it's really glossed over too, considering the first book implies that Percy triggered nature magic when he sent Gabe flying during the scene where he and Sally take the car.

Also, something about magic bending and distorting around Percy [we have seen that stuff like the mist or demigod dreams or other magic that works great with other demigods always skews around Percy]. There's more examples, and I will reblog when I remember. But this is also a point of highlight in many Percy centered fics.

Also what op is talking about is the fact that the Greeks or more specifically the Myceneans, before the Dark Ages of Greek, from at least Homeric Era to Classical Era considered Poseidon as Wanax or at least heavily associated Wanax with him, considering him the King of the Gods by the old (considered as source) myths.

So yeah, Percy is HIM cause Poseidon's basically an Eldritch horror on legs.

Something something Percy being the demigod most connected to nature. Protected from fire, breathes underwater, talks to animals, blessed by pan, shares an empathy link with the lord of the wild, awoke the earth with a drop of his blood
