..I think it’s eating calamari??
Piranga olivacea - Scarlet Tanager
My second Scarlet Tanager, and this time it’s in my own backyard. He was very curious, and didn’t seem to be afraid of me. He’s an incredible bird.
It was so fun, we need to go birding again soon. Oh, wait, we are. What if we went bug watching? It would be so neat. I wonder if bug watching is called bugging?
I’m so glad I got to go birding with my bird friend @teaformybee
A beautiful, male, Long-tailed Duck in his breeding plumage.
Spotted in Virginia. A vulnerable species, close to being endangered. They are named for their long tail, but that’s not very surprising. They breed in the Tundra, and are deep sea divers that feed on small fish and crustaceans, they truly are amazing an unique birds!
Oh heck something happened to the killdeer nest. The eggs are missing and the parents are nowhere to be found. There's no sign of the eggs having hatched either. I just saw the mother yesterday evening and now she's gone, along with her mate.
Today I went birding. It was freezing, but it was worth it. Here's a list of what I saw, I'll post pictures soon. (Unfortunately I don't have pictures of all the birds) -Indigo Bunting (2) -Wood Thrush (7) -Eastern Bluebird (5) -Blue Jay (8) -American Robin (9) -Northern Flicker (1) -Wild Tukey (2) -Black Vulture (6) -Turkey Vulture (3) -Scarlet Tanager (1) -Baltimore Oriole (3) -Tree Swallow (27) -Barn Swallow (13) -American Goldfinch (4) -Field Sparrow (3) -Yellow-rumped Warbler (2) -Red-bellied Woodpecker (2) -Pileated Woodpecker (1)
I love eating ice cream next to a fire. It’s like a race, you know? A race against time.

Fratercula arctica - Atlantic Puffin
This is probably one of the coolest birds I’ve ever seen, I’m so glad I was able to get pictures of this beautiful little bird!
