North, South, East, and West,
The four corners of the Earth, I take my power back.
Forsake all who threaten to do harm upon me,
I signal the universe to protect me,

Grant me the power to rise above where they had thought I had been sent to fall.
I thank the powers of North, South, East, and West,

Abstract
Dune is one of the few examples of modern literature to include extensive Arabic and Islamic themes. This chapter will look at the significance of the work, comparing the culture and faith of the Fremen and the Arabs. We will look at our attitudes towards Islam, ethnic minorities, ‘the other’ but more importantly, Frank Herbert’s view overall.
Background:
The aim of this chapter is to explore the Arabic/Islamic themes in Dune, comparing the perceptions of the average audience with the Arab/Muslim demographic. Based on his own words, we will explore Frank Herbert’s opinions and usage of themes to portray the Fremen, including the reality of suffering and historical persecution. We will look at the film projects that were made and those that were not made, including both SyFy miniseries while exploring Arab futurism in the source material.
A Readers Approach to Desert People
As with all work, we approach everything with our opinions, certain levels of conditioning and perhaps even prejudice. We will deconstruct what those prejudices could be and compare them to how readers who identify with the natives of Arrakis would react to the text.
Frank Herbert’s Attitude Towards Faith & Islam
Frank Herbert did not just casually insert Arabic terms into the fray of his work without taking a considerable amount of care as to their proper meanings and etymological roots. It is very easy for one to read Dune and come to the conclusion that the work itself is against the idea of religion or more specifically, that Frank Herbert looks down on Islam. The astute however, will note that he was wary of blind following and fanaticism, not religion itself. Islam was chosen for the Fremen as a focal belief system for a number of reasons and here we will explore themes of faith in Dune.
Understanding Fremen Suffering
Dune gives us the opportunity to reflect on the life of nomadic people, ethnic minorities and the psyche behind the oppressed. It makes us question what we would do in the scenario of the Fremen and perhaps sympathize with their situation. We will look at the reality of the Fremen and compare it to existing ethnic minorities in the Middle East in particular.
The Arab Futurism of Dune & Conclusion
Hollywood has had a long standing problem of portraying the ‘other’ which has improved over time as attitudes change with increased public awareness. The Afrofuturism of Black Panther and the celebration of African culture was a step in the right direction for all ethnic minorities. We will look at the futuristic mega city ‘Neom’ developed in the deserts of Saudi Arabia and explore a new idea, Islamofuturism; the idea that a faith can advance humanity just as they once did during ‘The Golden Age.’ And explore the theory that perhaps this was ‘The Golden Path’ of the Arabs in comparison to the Fremen contribution to mankind in Dune.

Should you find yourself on the wrong end of a curse or a hex, perform this spell, ideally on a cloudless moonlit night, for clarity. It’s a fairly rudimentary spell, easily performed by just about any witch as long as your intentions are clear and your focus is set.
This box/jar must be buried, preferably somewhere with low foot traffic and if possible in the woods.
MIRROR. this mirror will be, ideally, a small, handheld mirror that will break cleanly, rather than shatter.
JAR OR BOX. a jar is undoubtedly more secure, but a wooden lockbox is appropriate all the same.
DRIED THISTLE. dried thistle, to protect yourself.
MORNING GLORY. to bind the curse to the jar, and byway, back to the source.
SELENITE CRYSTAL. a small piece of this crystal will aid in focusing the moonlight, amplify the protection onto you and the curse onto the source.
BLACK FEATHER. this feather must be black by nature, not by human, meaning it must come from a bird that is obsidian, not a feather of other colour that has been dyed. the feather is to both strengthen the protection to you, and help to carry the curse to the source.
BLACK INK. to bind the jar/box.
TREE DIRT. ideally this dirt will be collected from under an old oak tree, but if there’s not one available to you, any dirt will suffice. this is to promote concentration while casting, and improve the strength of the spell.
001. Gather your ingredients, and find a clearing where the moon can meet the mirror when you need it. When you’re ready, focused, and prepared, sit on the ground and open your jar: ensure the moonlight kisses every corner of it, flooding it entirely.
002. Begin to place the ingredients into the jar, one by one, ensuring to centre on your intent with each: chanting aloud can help to focus your thoughts, but this is not necessary. With each item you place in the jar, make sure that your thoughts are clear with the items property and reason. As in, with the thistle: to protect yourself from what you’ve been cursed with. “with this thistle, i protect myself.” “with this morning glory, i bind this spell to this vessel.” etc. Once you’ve placed the thistle, morning glory, crystal, and feather into the jar, set it aside momentarily; preferably somewhere that the moonlight is still drowning the contents.
003. Take the mirror and look clear into it, concentrate deeply to remove the curse from yourself and bind it to the mirror. If you prefer simply to remove the curse from yourself, complete this step then skip to step five. If you wish for the curse to flutter back to the sender, you must perform step four as well.
As follows:
Continuing to hold the mirror, gazing deep into yourself, speak these words six times:
curse blind to me. curse bind to thee.
004. To return this curse to where it originated, speak these words eight times:
as the mirror breaks, this curse it takes,
i am protected, your curse is reflected.
Once you’ve spoken the words, you will lay the mirror down face up and break it with a rock. the idea is not to smash it, but to break it into medium pieces that can easily be collected. If you’re concerned about the clean break, you can lay a piece of fabric beneath the mirror and it can easily be scooped up and dumped into the jar if it happens to shatter. Please be extremely careful with this step, wear gloves if you think you may cut yourself.
005. Upon completion of the steps above, place ALL the pieces of the broken mirror into your container and fill it entirely with the tree dirt. Once full and the lid screwed on tightly, your spell is bound - optionally add a binding symbol and/or protection symbol to the lid of the jar. This spell cannot be unbound, meaning it will not return to you even if the caster should cleanse their own, as it will return to the mirror shards instead. Make sure to bury this jar in a safe, low traffic area. Deeper is better, you don’t want to accidentally injure someone should they step on it. Three feet or more should suffice. If you prefer not to bury this jar, keep it stored somewhere safe and consider gluing the lid closed so no one will accidentally open it an injure themselves.
Sooooo you’re not sure what’s going on in your life but you think you could be cursed? Luckily you have several options!
1. Burn a bay leaf at dawn and again at sunset. Allow the smoke to waft over you and when the leaves have finished smoldering scatter them in the wind.
2. Burn black salt. I personally like to write a small incantation on a slip of paper and use it to light the salt letting it all burn together.
3. Natural water. Enter a lake, stream, river, or other naturally occurring body of water. Water is extremely conductive and can easily carry away most curses or ill intent sent your way.
4. Take a bath with epsom salt and curse breaking herbs bay leaves, fennel, jasmine, sage, and nettles are all soild choices.
5. Clean your house with curse breaking herbs. Mop the floors, clean the windows, wash the doors paying attention to the threshold and when you’re finished throw the mop water out the back door.
These are a few of my personal favorites as far as beginner curse breaking in concerned! These aren’t for everyone and I caution you to take heed and practice with care!
How do I break a hex or curse?
As someone who’s had negative energy thrown her way, I’lltell you what I’d did. It began with a sigil and casting it during the fullmoon. Before that, I spent a while meditating in the sun and performing acleansing. Then I cleansed my energy points.
So you could do an energy cleansing, I would recommend usinga dark gemstones (tourmaline, obsidian, smoky quartz, etc.
You could do a jar spell to break the curse as well.

everyone has some ain’t shit person in they life who wants to see them fail, even if it’s subconcious. a jealous friend, an entitled coworker, or ya shady ass aunty who can’t mind her damn business, we all have someone working against us
most curses amount to this, so before you start freakin’ out that some powerful rootworker or witch is mad at you, i have some tips to help you out
do ya ears ring? itch? feel hot? is ya eye twitchin? do you keep havin dreams with a person who you not all that close to? did you get really hype for some good news and then it crumbled? even when it seemed like a for sure thing? then someone is prolly working against you
this can be difficult. narrow down the most likely aint shit people in ya life, pay attention to ya dreams, ask the house spirits and ancestors, or do a little divination. get a grasp of their energy.
but frfr get outcha Florida Water, double the salt, light all the herbs on fire, clean and cleanse your home, car, and any spaces you heavily occupy. cleanse and get rid of items connected to the person. take a long cleansing bath.
do a banishing spell, write the names of the people down and set them on fire, get the black salt out and sweep it out the door. banish their energy that is currently being directed at you. cleansing only gets rid of what is there currently.
remember, if you don’t bind them, the person will just keep sending those prayers and soft curses your way. silence them.
there are many ways to just eliminate the casual curses and prayers against you.
STOP TELLIN EVERYONE YA GATDAMN BUSINESS

One of the three species of snakes in Finland, this one appears as a benevolent creature, a guardian for households and farms in folklore.
In Finnish folklore, Guardian snakes bring good luck to household and give warning if malicious spirits approach. They are offered the first fresh milk and are even allowed to sleep inside the house.

there are gods you’ll see on a warm summer day, when the sun is close and ripe, and the air smells like flowers in full bloom, and like young wine goes to your head
there are gods you’ll see when the snowy night has covered the world in a deep dark shroud and your soul is bare against the judgement of the stars
there are gods you’ll see when you look into the eyes of a stranger and catch a glimpse of a long forgotten lover, overflowing with promises of many sleepless nights
there are gods you’ll see when your heart boils with anger and your spirit fills with wicked desires, as red as blood and as blood sweet
there are gods you’ll see when the pain tears you like thorns and nettles, and there are gods you’ll see when loneliness burdens you like a heavy unwanted crown
there are gods you’ll see in songs, in the beating of the drums and of the hearts, in the shimmer of a mountain stream and the depth of the sea, gods of wolf’s howl and of the forest
there are gods you’ll see many times on your path, and there are gods you’ll see only once in your lifetime, gods you’ll be happy to see and those you’d rather forget
there are gods you’ll see in the dreams
gods you’ll see in the smoke
gods you’ll see in the mirror
whatever you do, don’t look at them too long.
Ok so this post is extremely long and I put it all together for my blogs Feeling sad page but as I don’t have a huge amount of followers I realize so many people are not seeing this information so I’m posting it here too!
alternatives without harming yourself:
holding/squeezing ice.
splashing your face with water.
getting a rubber band and snapping it against your skin (this could hurt, though it’s better than other ways that people usually choose to self-harm).
take a hot shower or bath.
eat something sour. it will take your mind of the urge. (lemon, sour lollies)
massage where you want to self-harm.
get a red pen or red paint and draw/paint over where you usually self-harm.
remind yourself as to why you shouldn’t do it. (scars, harms organs, leave memories etc…)
describe what you are feeling. (is the urge/pain in your chest, fists, legs, arms, head).
killing yourself will not help. it is not a solution.
you have your whole life ahead of you. you have so many more years that you can accomplish things in. for example;
having a family.
getting married.
to watch the sun rise.
to watch the sun set.
to save someone else’s life.
finish school.
get your dream job.
to laugh.
to smile.
to go camping.
travel to new places.
to wake up every morning to the person you love.
friends.
family.
to keep that promise you made.
to accomplish a goal.
to meet your idol.
to listen to new music.
theme parks.
video games.
chocolate.
to be able to look back and say “i made it”.
what you’re going through is temporary.
in case you need to hear this:
you are loved.
you are wanted.
you are needed.
you are beautiful.
you are handsome.
you are important.
you are not alone.
you are okay.
you are strong.
you are worth it.
you are smart.
you are not a failure.
you are useful.
you are going to be okay.
