I could use some 💪 luck
Continuing off of my last post, one line in this episode really bothered me. Din and Grogu’s relationship hasn’t been a factor hardly at all the whole season. It’s really nice to see it again here, but that ending could have been so much more emotional if we actually were reminded throughout of their growing bond instead of mostly relying on how the relationship was shown in the first two seasons. Sigh. But whatever, it still makes me happy to have protective Mando back.
Now, here’s what upset me. When Grogu stops Paz and Axe from fighting and Bo-Katan compliments him as a teacher, Din says something along the lines of “I didn’t teach him that.”
And I’m sorry, HUH??
The way they wrote it made it seem like it’s not just an instant of Din being humble (because let’s face it that would be too much character and not enough straight forward exposition for these writers lmao). Instead it actually implies that he didn’t learn it from Din, I don’t know whether it was meant to be referencing his training with Luke or the leadership Bo has been doing, but I absolutely hate either option.
That’s utter garbage, Din throughout the entire first two seasons has solved multiple conflicts by being a good peacekeeper, Chapter 9 was literally all about him being the one to bring together the Tuskens and Cobb’s village. If anyone has taught Grogu this, it IS Din. But if we are suppose to take that line literally, it means it’s another instance of the writing ignoring all the traits and skills Din showed up until this season to make someone else look better. Like I know it’s just one line, but that bothers me. It bothers me nothing is being given or even accredited to your main character after you had him do so much and display so many good qualities, because this story just wants you to laser focus on Bo-Katan. Din isn’t just a babysitter to Grogu who keeps him alive anymore. In the beginning of the season he was literally teaching and guiding him! I wanted that to have significance character wise and not just as a plot device for when Din got captured.
I liked getting more moments between them, I really do, but stuff like this after a season where their relationship hardly mattered just kinda makes it bittersweet honestly.
reblog to hug me
I decided to put my opinions about both with a score beneath the break in case anyone hasn't seen either yet.
Pedro looked great, but boy Fallon fumbled the ball a bit with his interview questions. I was texting one of my BFFs about it while we watched together and I was shocked that it was over so quickly. The questions were weak and I felt like didn't give the man much to work on, so aside from looking good it was just hard to watch as a SW/TLOU fan.
Honestly, the Mario/TLOU mashup had me in tears. But aside from that, I wasn't that impressed with this episode. Pedro felt like he was just... there. Involved but not as a host, which was a weird feeling as a long-time SNL fan. I also felt like they lost out on a LOT of opportunities for TLOU, Mando, and even GOT skits they easily could have made fun of the fact that his characters keep dying horrible deaths and being reluctant father figures. The skits felt like anyone would have been in them and not tailored to him and it was a little disappointing. Especially with Mando coming back in a month.
The other hot take that I'll probably get backlash for but it's whatever is that I thought the hospital and Italian restaurant scenes were really poor taste. As a disabled person who's had nerve and brain damage from injuries as a kid that left me with a speech impediment, I was horrified that they'd make fun of something like that regardless of how funny the accent he used was. I constantly deal/dealt with people making fun of the way I talk because I slur certain words and if I didn't have the self-esteem of a god I probably would have stopped talking altogether. There are ways to make funny skits around that that don't make fun of disabled people. Same with the Italian restaurant scene, it was really uncomfortable watching a woman get ganged up like that. I just couldn't find the humor in either skit.
But the others I did enjoy, especially Mami Pedro. As a Spanish speaker, the skit had me in tears. And even the steak scene, it happened with a former black college roommate of mine who only ever ordered steak extra well and with catsup so I had a lot of great flashbacks to that. But other than those and the TLOU sketch, I felt like this episode just lacked a lot. There was so much potential that I felt like was thrown away and I wish Pedro had been more involved, but it wasn't horrible. I hope SNL and even Pedro do better regarding jokes at the expense of historically underrepresented people moving forward.
The reluctant adoptive parental figure to wayward kids.
The moment a character, of any gender, is suddenly handed the responsibility of being responsible for the livelihood of not just a child's wellbeing but like anyone younger than them who suddenly looks up to them as a parent I'm like "that's my spouse and those are my kids."
If you had to pick, what’s the ONE trait in a fictional character that makes you immediately go “oh this one’s mine”
ok yeah I am actually very concerned about the mandalorian.
because if everything I’m hearing/seeing is true….they are taking the whole series/story away from the central character in a way that feels, in my opinion, like it’s happening far too abruptly and far too soon.
for many people, maybe most people, din’s story was the one that mattered. For that to be wrapped up so shortly without a truly satisfying ending to his character in pursuit of covering other characters that the casual viewer hasn’t been given enough back story for yet….it just feels incredibly disappointing and like such a gravity shattering let down for literally the SW universe’s most popular show. And if Pedro is actually going to leave and leading to the character leaving focus…I don’t think people will ever care as much as they once did.
I did not expect this for this show and it feels like such a blaster wound to the chest. I’m so sad and I do not for the life of me understand how or why this is the direction they are choosing to take to end this character’s incredible potential.
I hope it’s rumors. But the more we find out the more I’m like ….wow they’re really crushing it just like that.
why is it that in unrequited love situations its always the person who doesn’t feel the same getting villainized? especially if they were friends with other person beforehand?
its not their fault someone caught feelings for them.
they were just living their lives and minding their own business when out of nowhere someone is lamenting about how much their heart yearns for them or whatever and like. dude i am literally just existing how is this my problem
This was fun <3 @yourcoolauntie you would be my go-to tag for this but you beat me and everyone else I'm not as familiar with enough to tag them so this is free for all! Good luck with my weird taste in music!

Go to bed MJ and wake up a little early to write, you deserve the rest as much as you also deserve a safe space to write!
