yesterday i reblogged a drawing resource that included how to draw hijabs - and it honestly wasn’t the best advice i’ve seen out there
now, i’m not an artist. but what i saw was a video that included hijab styles most of us don’t really wear and incorrect terminology surrounding niqabs and burqas (yes, there is a difference between the two)
so, i went searching and found a tutorial that i felt was better! these drawing guides and examples come from @/winchestermeg on twitter, and i think they’re really great 💕
this has more relevant examples and correct terminologies, and is drawn by a muslim woman
enjoy, artists of tumblr!
Some drawing tips I was asked for. I might draw later how to draw expressions and hands, but for now, here, thanks for the interest! And hope this is useful!
Ramon Hurtado’s demo after Rubens, step by step
The way you draw hair is so GORGEOUS!! It is okay to ask how you do it??
omg thank you :'D !! and ofc! here's how i like do it
whenever i draw hair i like to think about volume first and shape design second. usually when i make a sketch this is how i go about doing it:
^ i basically lay down quick shapes of what i want before going in with cleaner lines
first i choose a direction that the hair is supposed to swoop towards, then draw overlapping and twisting chunks/strands of hair (with varied size, thickness etc to make it look less stiff)
this applies to other types of hair as well :)
i guess to put it more plainly - i like to layer hair a little bit to make it look more visually interesting... but i do tend to go overboard sometimes, so i erase or start over a lot ^__^"
here's a recording i managed to take while sketching, hopefully it clears up what i've written so far LMAO

Face tutorial for Anon!
I wasn’t sure whether you meant heads or facial expressions, so here’s a very basic head tutorial! Of course not all faces are the same so proportions and the size of ears/eyes/noses etc. can vary! Feel free to explore and play with them to create unique and interesting characters! I hope this is somewhat helpful, and let me know if you’d like a tutorial on expressions as well!
black panther was released in theaters less than half a week ago (2/19) and i’ve already seen the main characters with white features and people making the characters too light and you absolute buffoons have let these posts blow up so im here’s a post on how to avoid bleaching black characters
skin color reference lip reference lip/nose/hair reference
if you want to take a skin color reference do not play by eye use this bitch right here
i wish this was obvious but if the source is an edited picture say like this
don’t use that source. it’s best to use a source where there is more natural light or you can look up the actor/actress and get a solid picture of them. also take note of what kind of facial features these characters have (nose, lips, etc) by looking at stills or posters of them. not all of these characters have slim noses or smaller lips.
i know this is going to be a new experience for people drawing black characters so if you make a mistake, learn from it especially if it’s from a black person. get the okay from black people before posting. you’ll get better with time and practice. this isn’t a “let people draw them the way they want” thing because this movie respects african and black cultures like how they put so much effort into the costumes and i really would not hurt to respect black people
feel free to post more sources

A lot of people ask me for tutorials. I guess this counts. I don’t really know how to tackle a full tutorial just yet. Styles range so much that I feel it’s more just tips or suggestions
